HELP!!! I sold my Plastic on Ebay! Now how can I ship it? UPS wants $112

Has anyone ever shipped plastic??? How did you ship it?
I have the front and rear fenders off my 400ex in one box. It is the box that the new rear fenders came in. It measures 40"x30"x16". Fed ex says it's too big and usps says it's too big!

How is everyone else on ebay shipping full sets of fenders for $25-$35. Any sugestions???

are you insuring it? what type of ups shipping are u using, ground or what?
i know that can make a huge difference, you can ship cheap thru the greyhound bus station, then they would pick it up at the station close to them
but i dont know how the ones on ebay ship them just some ideas

I had the same problem last week when I sold my stock Z plastic, it was either pay $107 and $34 for each piece, or $117 for both in one big box. I insured it for $300, and it ended up costing $125 to ship. I only had $35 figured on the cost to ship. Lesson Learned.:rolleyes:

for 250r plastic? I think its narrower, so its cheaper. Something about UPS and stuff over 40" and you are screwed.

UPS doesn't usually charge for ground shipments being too big. At work anyways they do the rate by weight and where it's going.

They sure as heck don't do it by weight, frame/subframe costs roughly $31 to ship, and its a heck of a lot heavier than a 5 pound fender:confused:

I don't know but keep the ideas coming!!! I may have to look at shrink wraping it or repacking it or something! I am really worse for wear, the fenders sold for $75 and I only allowed $25 for shipping. I am such an idiot!!! But there were several other sets on there for $25 shipping???? Let me know if you have any other ideas???:(

It's probably different for residential, I said that was for work, maybe it is different. Never had to ship anything that big before.

How did you shipyours after you wrapped them in shrink wrap?
UPS ground or Fed Ex or USPS or what???

Yeah try to wrap it in shrink wrap and try the post office also.

i wrapped them up, slapped a shipping label on them and they went ups ground.

ive also sent fenders in shipping bags.

You might want to look at fed ex prices also. On larger stuff that I sell, they offer a much better price than UPS.

Shipping large items is easier through a business than residential when using UPS.

i shrink wrapped some fenders i sold, ups told me its unsafe because it could rip or get snagged on a machine. they made me box them.

thats odd i just shipped a full set of plastics a seat and headlight assembly thru ups yestersday in 1 box for like 32 bucks and i had some kind of points reward built up with them and it only cost me $9. and some change

I've sent 300ex plastic in the largest UPS box they have available. It was around $20.00, it was shipped in my state.

I get them sent today! I wrapped them in shrink wrap and took them to ups store. I think it depends on who you get because at first he measured them. He said it was 36 across the back fenders, which it is actually about 38 or so. Then he measured from front to back and said it was 39". He quoted me $112 to ship them. So after I explained to measure the length (front to back), he couldn't just arch the tape over the package. He finally measure it straight across without laying it over the package and it was only 30". When he put this in the price dropped to $30, then he said he had to add a non-standard package charge. So bottom line it cost me $40.80. Although I think that is pretty steap, me talking to the guy and showing him where to measure saved me $72.00. Thanks for all the ideas and be warned when you sell fenders. Allow more than $25 for shipping!!!! :blah:

pu them in a trash bad and tap them up and put tape on them thats what i do..

they added an oversize charge but then based it on weight. it was under $50
