What compression and size of bore kit is in your motor? Since you already replaced the head studs, I don't think that is your problem anymore. If it was me I would buy another gasket, spray it with that copper head gasket coating, and install it. Torque your head bolts in the proper pattern in about 3 steps. Warm your quad up, run it around for a little bit, then retorque the head bolts again. If it head gasket blows again you have real problems. By the way I use a fiber type gasket on my 330 kit. When I installed it, I sprayed it down with copper gasket sealant and tightened it down. Needless to say, I ended up tearing the engine down for another reason and I couldn't separate the head from the cylinder, it was sealed that tight. That is proof enough for me that copper gasket sealant works.

HD head studs. 440's don't like to stay sealed up, but with the proper gasket, and HD studs the ball is in your court. I re-torque mine after the first ride. I have only blown one gasket in this, and it was a Cometic gasket. I was in a pinch and didn't have access to another gasket and sure enough it blew on the first ride.

He didn't say HD studs. The HD studs are a larger diameter and use course threads. They hold a hell of a lot more than stock studs.

My mistake, I naturally just assumed HD studs.

Are the HD Studs needed for a 416 10.8:1 Piston?

i am running the stock studs with the same compression piston. you should be fine but some people have run into problems. i usually hear around 11:1 you should be getting heavier studs. i would leave it like it is unless you have a problem.

Ok my motor is being built right now. I am using the steel flex gaskets!

It's a crap shoot really. My buddy has 12.5:1 and OEM studs. I have 11.0:1 and have HD. Go figure.

Take a big pieice of sand papper and sand the head until the gasket surface gets sanded evenly it but be uneven and letting pressure out and blowing it all the time so try that.
