i was wondering why the tuned the trx450 motor down so much. when i get mine i am going to put a crf450 carb. retard the timing and crf450 cam K@n filter. is there any other differences like piston compression or anything?

I'm not sure what the compression is on the CRF but the bore and stroke are a little different. The piston has 2 compression rings insteat of one like on the CRF.

everything is different nothing from the dirt bike engine will swap over to the quad engine except the carb and i believe the valves everything else has been redone to suit the quad better but this also takes away from the power

i hate that why did they rob so much power from the trx450 motor?

its almost got me wanting to switch to a yfz450. but i love the honda reliability. anyone know how they handle compared to the yfz?

trx has a bigger bore, and a shorter stroke than the crf450

The bore and stroke are different, the cam will interchange, the fcr carb will have to be modified a little, the pistion will not fit because of the bore and stroke. Just will have to wait til someone makes one for the new R.

From what I've read they didn't tune it down that much. Seems like the just tuned it differently to suit a quad. If it can hang power wise with a yfz it can't be that detuned. Plus there's always the basic bolt ons or HRC kit to quickly bring it up.

It's totally different and dumbed down. The piston is nowhere near the dirtbikes small skirt 2 ring design, the exhaust valves are smaller and made of steel, the cam is puny, the compression is dropped, The carb is not as good, the bore and stroke are changed which changes the combustion chamber. The case is the same!!!!

all that and it still the same speed as the yfz.

i called my honda dealer today and they said they would be getting the 450r in sometime early febuary i might just wait out and get one. i still dont like the motor that is on it they should have just left it the same. all kinds of people are goin to be changing that stuff just to get more h.p and better revs. atleast i know i will if i get one

If you ask me I would rather have the TRX450r motor than the CRF 450 because the TRX motor is made for a quad and the trany is more beafed up so it would be more reliable. Im not to happy about all the detuning Honda did to the quad but I don't blame them because most people, I BET can't even handle the stock bike very well.... let alone a full out bilt to the hill TRX 450r.

Isn't it odd that someone who posts something like this:

twisted threads is right, the quad was not just ment for full out racing. they have to make it user friendly. i think the 450r is nice and if i were to get one (don't know yet, still love my 400ex) i wouldn't be do'n too much more to the motor other then some bolt on's. i think my 400ex is too fast for me!!, i can't even think how fast the 450r would be. i'm sure with the hrc kit this 450r will come alive along with some fine toon'n.

so to all they guys and girls who have or are get'n the 450r, make us 400ex'rs rase are heads high, that big red is still the best.

have fun and play safe!!!!!

(they are kool look'n!!!!!):macho

I don't know why some people complain about the steel valves. Go over to thumpertalk.com and look up valves for the crf450 and everyone is ditching the stock valves for stainless steel valves.(funny). So maybe we should be thankfull for what we have.

2 are stainless and 2 are titanium.... boys honda knows what their doin and who are we to judge them, they know how to make a reliable fast ***** quad....

they built this quad for performance and by go its going to preform... like someone said earlier the lt 250 won the first shootout that the 250R was in, so what do mags know.... the test of time is really the one that counts... dont worry about why honda did what they did with this bike... its going to be a good one just like all the rest... i mean if they give it the R name then it has to do justice to the legend of the 250R

so long live the R and goodluck to the people that get them including me... i promise everyone in the long run we will be more that satisfied:) :D :) :D :D
