View Full Version : What size Dyno-jet should I run with a WB E-series pipe & header

I bought a used WB e-series for my stock 400ex and a K&N jet kit. I was wanting to know if anyone had this setup and what jets you used? I am around 700-800ft above sea level??? Can any one give me an accurate place to start????:confused:

start with the highest there is and work your way down...do plug tests with each one and that should get you to the right jet;)

I live in a Metropolitan area, so there is no place for me to test this and work my way down! Does anyone run this same setup and want to share what Dyno-jet size jets they are running!!!!
I called White Bros today and asked them what they sugested with the e-series and he said stock jets or if I get up to 18 discs I may want to run a 165 main. I asked him if that was Kehin size or Dyno-jet size and he tried to tell me they were the same. I am pretty sure that they are not the same. So he was absolutely no help!!! I am trying to get an IDEA of what size Dyno-jet main and idle that I need, so I can put my quad back together this weekend and be ready to ride this spring!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!:( :confused: :(

Does a 170 main and 42 pilot dyno-jet sound about right for 700-800 ft above sea level????:eek:

if you don't want to test it out, i would go smaller than the 170.

I just found a guy using dyno-jet jets w/ a WB R4 pipe, and he is running a 155 main and 42 pilot! I think I will stay with the 42 pilot but doesn't 155 main seem a little small??? Just curious?

a 155 or 160 should be fine. Just do a plug test asap...you can usualy tell if its running to rich, so try the 155 and the 160 and see what a happens. I am running the 165 dj but I only have the slip-on. Its also winter here and I it can get as cold as -20 when I ride:eek2:

Im at or near sea level (northeast) and I run a 170DJ lid off 146DJ lid on 42 piolet with 12 discs on my E series and K&N filter

PLEASE HELP!!!!!:( :confused: :( your correct WB told me the same thing if you call DJ they will tell you there is a differance between the 2 listen to DJ put in what they recomended with the kit according to your mods, thats a good starting point.

My friend (who is a great mechanic, and took his time dialing it in) runs a 148 DJ with the lid on and a K&N filter/ 40 pilot 21/2 turns out, on his 400EX. That is at 500' elev., air temp 50-60*. It runs very fast and clean.

i just wish i had the kit so i could give my input on about what size to run. i have spent numerous hours jetting my bike with keihin jets so i kind of have them figured out. however, there is no reason why one peson runs a 170 and another runs a 146-148 with similar mods. if it was me i would put in no bigger than a 155 dg. i have been told that the dynojets are a little bigger than keihin jets. so in other words, a 148 dynojet is larger than a 148 keihin jet. and with keihin jets i would not go larger than a 158. i would only go up to a 158 in the cold winters and running no airbox lid. i personaly think dynojet tells you to jet larger than what is needed so it runs a little rich. i wish i had the kit so i could test and tune but i have no desire to buy one since i rather use keihin mainjets anyways. i hear it is easier to tune the bike in with keihin jets. who knows. cal

a 170DJ with NO lid, 146dj WITH lid thats the difference.

It seems hard for me to believe that there would be that big of a jetting difference with the lid on/off.

that what DJ recomends w/ the kit. flame all you want but it runs great and the plug is the nicest of tan.:huh :huh

me too. with keihin jets i would usually go up about 2 sizes going from the lid in place to no lid. for example, if i was running a 150 with the lid on i would go up to about 155 with the lid off. this isn't always the case but just a rough estimate.

keihin jets are numbered by hoy much they flow, dyno jets are numbered by the size of the hole. this is why you can't compare the two and say that somone is using to fat of a jet just buy the # your useto and the mods on thier bike.

What is the stock jet size for main and pilot on the 400ex???
Just curious how big of a jump I am going to be taking?:eek2:

If you went with a DJ with the lid on at or near sea level the kit will recomend a DJ 146

Nikejoe,

I run a eseries full system and a Uni filter. I ride frome sea level to 4000 ft on a 155mj and a 42 pilot. in the winter, i sometimes run a 160 when its real cold or when I play in the snow. This is with 10 to 12 discs. Now, these are Keihin jets. Jets are cheap and most Honda shops stock the Keihins, for around $6 you can get the job done and be done with it.

From what I have read here, the concensus is that these jets would put you spot on, and eliminate the need to piss off the neighbors. Just my two cents, take it for what its worth, and good luck.

Try 165 170 and 155 and do plug test and see which one works out the best .
