I got an O'neal, the hubby has THH, the boys have Vega, & M2R they are all pretty good helmets & reasonable, I wouldn't buy anpther Vega though, they are getting a little weak I think, thats what my oldest son is in now but hoping to get him a new one for his BD cuz I'm just afraid if he hits hard he may bet a head injury!! But it's cool lookin' haha it's chrome w/ red/orange flames:blah:

Two things to look for in a helmet are:

1. Is it Snell rated. (Snell are one piece and will not "explode" like a regular composite helmet)

2. Is the chin piece part of the helmet, or bolted on. (Bolt on will bust if you take a header)

Obviously there are "style" points awarded to any helmet. I have Thor SVS, SV5 and SV4. (wife and daughter's helmets)
You should be able to pick up a Thor for about $100.00 - $125.00.

I think THH is made from the same mold as THOR but maybe not the same liner.
Dirtmamma is correct, I wouldn't put a VEGA on anybody. They are not a good fit and I do not think they can get a Snell rating. (Research Snell andd you'll realize why DOT is not a good enough rating for anyone to ride in.)

It really comes down to one thing, what is your head worth to you?

i have a hjc cl-x3 and a vega chrome flames helmet. the hjc is more comfortable and seems better quality, but was also double close to double the price of the vega. the vega just looks good. both are dot approved.:)

FACT: HJC helmets out-sell every other offroad helmet four-to-one;) I am on my second HJC and when I skid on this on I'll buy a third. My lids wear HJC as well. With out a doubt the most comfortable lid in your stated price range.

I sell a TON of HJC helmets at work to all sorts of people . Anywhere from Motocross , to ATVs to Street bike and Sled helmets . By far our most popular seller . Has the added security as posted before , of the Snell rating . Snell with withstand higher impacts and are less likely to fail if an accident occurs . As suggested by the manufacturer , if the helmet is involved in an accident or has been dropped from a certain distance ... it's time to replace it . It has served it's purpose . Like I said I sell a ton of helmets at work ... anywhere from Zues , to CKx ... HJC to Shoei . I went with the HJC Chromium Red myself . great lookign helmet .. little pricey , but well worth the money .

I wear M2R- saved my head alot of times really light and nice looking. I was told that HJC helmets are crap. You can tell alot about a helmet by how much you can flex it. (strength and durability) And those flex a whole lot more than say a KBC, Shoei, higher-dollar M2R, or Bell. It's basically like everything else you get what you pay for.
