I'm looking to spend 3 to 4 grand.
How much maintenance and what are the downsides involved with a 250r?
I've never owned a two-stroke, and I want something that I can hop on at anytime and just go.
Do you always have to run race fuel in a 2 stroke?
Got nads?

I would go with a 400ex. Speaking from experience, when buying a used 250r that is in anything but excellent shape you will have to dump a whole lot of money into it at one time or another. Parts are also quite a bit cheaper for a 400ex. Although I must admit that a built 250r is a whole lot more fun to ride than a 400ex. And no you don't have to run race gas in a 250r, unless you have high compression.

They are both great rides, but i pick the R. If you not wanting to put any money into it after you buy it, the 400 might be better for you.

Thanks for the reply's, I'm not to worried about putting money into it afterwards. There is one I'm looking at that is in perfect shape only 10 rides on the new rebuild for $3200.
What I'm worried about is I take care of my 3 year old son by myself and when I get a chance to ride I just want to go no problems. Can I rely on a 250r?

if you take care of it will take care of you. imo a good maintained 250R is just as a good as a 400ex except in very cold weather (below 0) so i vote the R and it also has better resale!;)

:huh why would it? First off the cr 250 doesn't even have a counter balencer in it and second of all honda DID stick a cr 250 engine in a 400ex frame and I haven't heard of anyone who has bought one
