is there any way to make a 400 less cold bloded it is a cold winter and whenever I go riding I have to start the bike 5 or 6 times before it will stay running and that is with the coke on all the way its pain in the but.

if you put in a 40 or 42 pilot jet, that should help out. these bikes are just cold blooded. another thing to remember is don't keep hitting the throttle before the bike starts. you will probally flood the bike if you do this.

Try turning the fuel screw out 1/2 to 1 turn. That should help some in the cold weather. One main problem with the cold starting is that it has a choke that restricts air comming into the carb rather than an enrichener circuit that adds more fuel. This works OK but isn't as good as an enrichener circuit especially when it is cold out.

put in the 40-42 and when starting it give it 3 stabs of the throttle, and then hold it at 1/8-1/4. the 400ex carb has an accel pump that squirts a shot of fuel straight to the engine. the 3 pumps acts like a primer on a weedeater. but cals is right if you doo it too much it will flood

I agree, put a one size larger pilot jet in.
