350x 5 or 6 speed??

i am thinkin bout doin the 350-250 x conversion and was wonderin what kind of trany the 350 had. im really not stasfied w/ my 250 5 spd. so any help would be welcome. and has anyone done this conversion and how does it compare to say the 400ex?

350x is a 6 speed.

Yes it is a 6 speed!! A friend of mine has done this and I'll tell ya one thing. It will hang with 400ex's with no problem. The 350x is one of the best motors honda has built. If your looking for one let me know because my friend has like 2 or 3 350x motors (i think) and I think he said he was gonna sell one!!

Yeah it will hang with 400exs. It would probably be only 1 or 2 mph slower than it or equal in speed. If you decide to do this make sure you get an extended swingarm, axle, a arms, and shocks. The 350x motor is as receptive to motor mods as the 400ex and there are many mods out there for it.

i have both and gear for gear the 350x was right there with the 400....i think once my 350 got into sixth (and both machines were stock at the time) it would have been a little ahead of the 400 but we ran out of room.....an old issue of atv sport (dec 2000 pg. 50) had a conversion of a 250x with a 350x done out to a 454......to much powder they said to be fun with out the +3 swing arm........talk about wheelies............good luck

The 85s were 5 speed and the 86/87 were 6 speed.

See...that's the difference, if Honda had actually designed a 400 atv motor it would pull better than any 350x motor could dream of. Instead it can hang with it and it has that glorious sixth gear. That's got to be the biggest dissappointment with the 400 motor, no sixth gear. :p

not really the only difference between the 85 and 86 models was the plastic colors , seat cover design, and the clutch cable routing on the 86.........all 350x engines have 6-speed constant mesh transmissions

My '86 350X has six and it is on a 250X frame also so if ya have any questions call me just not on electrics get this it is 4 sale
