If I were to go with a 416 w/11:1 comp., stage 2 Hotcam, port/polish, bored carb, etc., what should I do to upgrade the clutch to accomodate the extra power? Thanks.

If I were you i would go with a Hinson Basket and a Sparks 8 plate kit with springs, it will help alot to put all that power to the ground

What kind of money is this setup? My bike has a fairly new Barnett clutch installed, but I forget the # of plates.

until the old clutch went out i wouldnt worry about a brand new one with your engine work.

Yeah Jingle is right, I wouldnt change if you are currently running new clutches, Items i listed in my Previous post will run you around $350-400 Maybe a little less considering who your buying from, but after running this setup I will never go back to a 7 plate kit.

Okay. That's what I'll do. Is there any other brands that are comparable in quality to the Hinson basket?

You could go with just the 8 plate kit for around $100-$150 and still get most of the benifits!

I would agree if you just put a new clutch in not too long ago I would stick with that. I have an ebc in my 416 and it is working good.

When I did my 416 I just put heavy duty clutch springs in the stock clutch. Seams to be working fine. When it goes I will put the 8 plate in. Springs were like 15 bucks or so.

I got the Sparks 8 Plate. Can't wait to test it out. For now I am running the stock basket, should work great!

You should be fine with what you have if your not racing on roads/streets.

Should I fool with installing even stiffer springs? Or should I just wait til the whole thing goes? I just want to make sure it'll hold up for MX. It has so far, but just being cautious.

I would practice or ride a little with the setup you have now and just make a judgment call, if you think the stiffer springs will help that much then thats what you need to do but i think you should be fine until you are in need of a whole clutch, which if you go with the 8 plate setup it comes with springs, and the hinson basket isn't really a must, im actually still running my stock basket and it still hooks up great. there are some other brand names of billet basket one i know of is speed racing products, not sure if they are as good as Hinson but definatly a little cheaper.

Run what ya got now and just upgrade when the time comes. The 8 plate setup is the ticket for sure on a 400ex. The hinson basket isn't a bad addition either.. Shouldn't run you more than $350.
