Hey guys,

I'm doing my first disassembly of my 400ex's rear end to grease up the bearings and had a couple of Questions:

1. Does anyone make a cheaper version of the 56mm locknut wrench for the axle nuts?? ( it's $ 59 from Service Honda...if someone worked at a machine shop they could probably make them pretty cheap and sell them to make a good profit...)

2. which direction does the inner locknut turn to loosen?? I know the outer is left-hand thread, but I forgot what the inner locknut is.... it's the 56mm one

3. What size socket goes on the nut for the swingarm bolt?? I think it's 22mm, but I don't have a wrench to fit. I want to get the right size so I get the right socket....

thanks for the help.....

:)

I just use a ford wrench ( like a pipe wrench without the teeth) it works great

You could try a cresent wrench too. 56mm is about 2 inches, I think a 15inch cresent will open that far and give you the leverage you need.

If your looking at the quad from the lock nut side, the lock nut turns to the left (counter clockwise). I figured this out after about 30 minutes of banging the crap out of it!!!! I also used a pipe wrench. It kind of tore up the nut, but it worked.

Lock nuts are both left hand threads, I used a pipe wrench as well and it did hash them up a bit. I had a dual pinch bolt lock nut to go back on so I wasn't worried about it.

The swing arm pivot bolt is 22mm on the left side and 18mm on the right side.

thanks for the info guys....

if both of the locknuts are left-hand thread,
that would mean if I turn them counter-clockwise it moves them closer to the disc, right??

Yep, that will give you access to the c-clip (stopper ring)
