forgive me for my ignorance, but what exactly is hot start?
i'm going to the local honda/yamaha dealer this week to ride both the 450r and yfz 450 and hopefully make my decision. i hope one impresses me enough to make me eat the loss and sell my '03 400ex for a down payment.

good luck riding one this week, considering they are not out. plus if i knew the dealership let someone ride my new quad while i had a deposit on it i would be pissed.

I wouldn't be too happy about that either.

what it does is lean out the mixture for easier starting when hot.

thanks for wishing me luck. i'm going by what the salesman told me. they get one of each in that they allow customers to ride. and he said their first orders would be filled this week and that they would have their one "demo" in.

the hot start is a basically a handlebar mounted assembly that allows more air to flow into the carb. (leaner)

In addition to the "HOT START", the motor has a centrifigal decompression release that opens up the exhaust valve on starting to reduce backpressure. This decompression release is enabled when the motor starts and is at idle.

AWESOME design for those HIGH compression aftermarket pistons.

The compression release is only working when cranking. Once the engine starts the ceterfrugal force of the cam swings out a little weight that pulls in a pin that disbles the compression release so it shuts off once idleing.
