what quad?

My step son is 10 years old and weighs about 115 lbs... right now he has a 01 TTR-125... but he is wanting a quad... what would be a good quad for him with his size with out him out growing it in no time??

why? wouldn't you want him starting out on a blaster? There awsome starter quads. What do you want him getting a 250ex? A quad that he will want to up grade in a year or so? A blaster or 300ex are awsome starter machines

well, we had a blaster for a while... cuz that is what my wife wanted.... well, we got rid of it to get her a warrior (4 stroke)... I would like to stay with a 4 stroke for him... too... he has putted around on my 400 ex in first gear... nothing major... when we had the blaster he couldn't get shifting gears very well... but since he has had this dirt bike.. he has learned to shift gears pretty good...but I don't want to get him on something that is too big and heavy for him then again I don't want him to out grow it in no time... :confused:

I don't know if the 125 had a manual clutch. but if it did I would not go to an auto clutch(250ex). the newer blasters now have good brakes and are smaller sized. they have lots of up grades out for itand most are cheap. I have never had a blaster but if I wanted a good first quad I would give it a good hard look :eek2:

looks like a blaster or 300 would be the best choice
i have one of each and can tell you they are both GREAT starter bikes, even the blaster has a very smooth power, nither motor will suprise him. both are very easy to ride. if you are worried about him being on a heavy quad, then the blaster will be perfect, they wiegh 320 pounds. i wiegh 130 and can throw it around like a rag doll, its great. the 300 is actually a little heavier than a 400ex.

both are great, you wont go wrong w/ either as long as the blaster is a 03 or newer, or atleast has hydro breaks rigged to it

i agree with that...getting a slightly bigger quad right now will last him just so much longer, I started out on a recon, but in a year or so I was looking to get something bigger, then my parents bought me a 300ex and that lasted me a lot longer...so I'd say go with the 300, plus you gotta remember how bullet proof they are :devil:

My son is 10 also, 5'2" 125 lbs his first quad was an Eton 90, he out grew that in 2 months and was whining about not being able to keep up with me on any trails (obviously). So I looked around for a small easy to use machine and ended up with this Kasea 250 skyhawk. It is an exact copy of a Blaster frame but has a 4cycle two cylinder engine. It is pretty front end heavy and a real mild clutch so no wheelies unexpected. It is a 5 speed manual and after he learned that he is able to ride my 300, not all out but just around on a flat track. The 300 actually is a little smaller in erogonomics then the 250EX. If he can shift and you want something for the long haul the 300 is a good choice. The Blaster seemed a little rough, kick start, 2 cycle and actually very quick and jumpy. This is a tough call when your kid is involved, the bottom line is you have to make the call for saftey and rider ability or training.

If your worried about a little to much power for him, im sure they have some type of governer that you can do for those bikes.

I say a blaster alot of people started out on a blaster. I started out on a blaster and it lasted me for like a little over a year, (broke down alot though) if you want himt o get something that will be less matnaice get the 300ex.
