Im going to be putting a 440 kit in my 400ex. What else besides the 440 kit would need to be done to the engine? I have a big gun exhaust, uni air filter, and carb was rejetted. So what else will have to be done to the engine to get it running good? Thanks

you would benefit from a good cam, most ppl here use hotcam, stage 2...also 4 reliability cam chain, connecting rod, etc...

a cam and possibly smoothing out your ports and a carb

I agree, a cam would be a good idea. There pretty cheap too. Before selecting a cam, you need to decide where do you want the most power. Do you want power on the topend or more towards the bottom end.

To give you a quick example of my motor; I wanted a motor for the trails. Its set up for bottom end power. Ive got a rather high compression piston with a low end cam.

Good luck! let us know what you come up with.

I ride woods and i use a top end cam...i like to have the power on top so when we get to the mx part of the trials and open straights i can blow everyone away...all i do is keep my revs up high and im fine back in the tight stuff but it is truely opinion on how you would like your power...the HRC cam is probably the best all around cam...adds power everywhere...but your gonna be payin a little more for it then a stage 1 or 2 hotcam

I rode a 490ex with a TC cam. Boy, that cam rips!!

Buy TC for custom grind cam, you won't regret it.

Yeah they are prolly the best cam you can just "drop in". I love mine.

TC's GNCC XC cam is also a "drop in" best money I ever spent on a mod.:muscle:

Can you drop a GNCC XC cam in a relatively stock motor with just a K&N air filter and exhaust?

you sure can, but you probally won't have any bottom end power with the stock piston. if your set on leaving the piston stock i would get a hotcam stage 1. if you prefer a less aggressive cam then you could run the xr400 cam. this cam should give a little better low end grunt but probally won't open up as much up top.
