10-40 is alot thicker than 10-30 i recomend 10-30 if u read on the back of the quarts it will tell you the oil to use for the temp u live in

i live in southern illinois, and i run 10-40 in the summer because it breakes down at a higher temp

but in the winter i run a 10-30 because your not gona run so hot and u dont need to work your oil pump to hard pumping cyrup!

i like moble oil

I use Honda 10-40 year round. Seems to work fine.

I use 10-40 in winter and 20-50 in summer. Amsoil.

Hey skemp do you use the 20-50 because you are running looser tolerances?

I use the 20-50 because I pull every bit of power out of that poor motor that I can when I ride it. My quad gets real hot, and the 20-50 really resists breaking down. It is very thick and coats the moving parts much better than a thinner oil would. It pretty much turns into pancake batter when it is real cold though.
I actually keep my valves just a sqeek tight and check them often. The Amsoil also works flawlessly with wet clutch designs as well. Cam and rockers still look brand new, and after sending in a sample of the oil to be analyzed, it came back perfect, with just a hint of fuel contamination, which is normal.

10W-30 is ideal for winter.

Just for kicks, the 10W refers to the weight of the oil when it is cold, and the 30 refers to the oil when it warms up to operating temperature. You always use a thinner oil in the winter and a thicker one in the summer.
