Hey this is what I am think of going with, My 2001 400ex is bone stock and i need a little more.
16/36 sprockets, UNI filter w/ 1 inche hole in air box, Sparks Degree Key, HMF Slip on or a YOSHI . What kind of gains im i looking at top and bottom end? give me some opinions and help! This package is like a little shy of $300. I am running the stock 20 inche tires also. Do you think i Should grind thw welds off the headers also to get a little more power, how much power will that help.

It is well worth the time to grind the welds in the pipe, I think you'll feel the difference and be able to see the motor RPM better.

unless you do only drag racing or only dunes, I would say dont go that high on your gearing. I think perfect for your setup is 15 front and 36 rear.-darren

To do it, you've got to remove the muffler and then the headpipe. At the front of the headpipe, on the inside, you'll find 2 large welds that hold the flange in place. Use a hand held grinder to remove most of the weld, but not all of it.

It won't harm a thing to grind down the welds. Like I said, don't remove all of the weld. Leave some for strength. I don't think I jetted mine until I started messing with the muffler and airbox lid. My airbox lid, at the time, was installed with no holes drilled. I just wish I had removed the welds prior to having the pipe ceramic coated.
