When i get a used 400ex i want to go with the white bros e series s bend silencer. Also either a uni filter or some higher than stock air filter and maybe a different air box lid. If i go with just the pipe and filter what should i re-jet to? Also should i move the clip on the needle to richen it up? If i go with the pipe, filter and different air box lid what should i jet it at? I am in New Jersey at sea level. I am planning in advance to fit my tightwad budget at this time.

Im not familiar with the dynojet needle. What are the differences from stock? Did you change the pilot jet as well and change the air/fuel screw setting? I am somewhat familiar with the 400ex carb, I have one on my atc 350x that i had to jet down cause it was too rich when i bought it, someone must have had it on a modded 400ex it had a 155 main in it!! I jetted to stock 350x at 138 and it runs mint!!

If you are on a tightwad budget, you don't need the dyno numbers. The stock will do just fine. Put the main jet at about 162 + or - one size and put the pilot jet at 42 to help with starting. Leave the needle alone. This should cost you lest than $10 to $15 total.

i did not change the pilot or the air/fuel mixture. the dynojet needle dont look much different than stock but is does make a difference.

Cool, ill keep that in mind. I dont want to by one of those expensive jet kits. They tried selling me one of them at honda when i was rejetting the 400ex carb on my 350x. It was like $60 i think i spent maybe $10 on a 138 and a 140 and it runs great.
