Hey,

I need help choosing a cam for my 400. I just recently blew two valve seals and I am going to upgrade the motor while its apart. I am going with a je piston but whats a good cam for 200 bucks or less? I am on a tight budget and I am doing it soon.

Thanks Norm

Look into a GT Thunder cam, a TC cam, and i think sparks makes a drop in for about 150 also

Get the XR cam from Terry Marcum in your door for $130.

white brothers makes one for around $120 i have one and i love it. you can choose a lift for playing around , and another for fast offroad, racing. either cam lifts are good, also if you didnt get one of these get a TC Tc has alot of knowledgr and i tend to like them over sparks.

but you cant go wrong it realy cmes to how much you wanna spend

I have friends with 430EX's and various cams, and my 416 with my web cam pulls away from all of them...have ridden with this setup for about a year with no problems.

FYI--Web Cam makes some (not all) of White Bros cams.

Get the xr cam. It's relatively inexpensive and it packs a punch.

Hey Chris Waters!! How did CT treat you over there??? and everything you bought from him, how long did it take to get it???

I would also get a TC Cam. The MX Cam is a Drop-In and costs $205. The Sparks Drop-In Cam is $350. I would never pay that much for a Cam. I think the TC would add more Power then the XR400. GT Thunder, or Web would also be good. I just like TC the Best.

If you get a TC Cam get it from Rocky Ridge Racing.

i was going to get the full exhaust.......but got the run around for 4 weeks.........then it took 2 weeks to get my cam........so finally i cancelled the exhaust and got the pc-t4 slipon.....so i cant say i had the worst experiance........but i may have been a little impatient.....

Thanks for all the replys!

You really helped out now all I need to do is decide what valve seals I'm going to get. I have heard Viton seals are good? Should I try them?

The Marcum`s 416 Kit comes with Viton Valve Seals. I would say they are Good. I would try them.

What Cam are you going to Get?

right now i have a web cam from ct, came wit my 440 kit. is the WB track/ race cam better, and wat would i need to use it, like hard facing, valve springs, ect ?

Well I want to get everything from Marcum's and I have heard nothing but good things about the xr400 cam. So I think I am going to get that one. What you think a god choice?

I think the XR400 Cam is Good, but you can get a Wilder Drop-In Cam. I think the TC MX Cam would be Good for you. You are Racing MX so it would have to be the Best Choice.

Its a drop in cam? No head mods required?

It`s a Drop-In just like the XR400 is. No Mods are Required.

You have the stock piston and compression ratio, right?

Given that, the XR cam or the WB all-around cam would work well, the W Bros one having slightly higher lift. At least slap in a XR head gasket while it's apart.

While the WEB 450/45 cam is great (same cam as the GT Thunder and W Bros Track cam), I think it's a bit too big for the low compression and small displacement. You'll probably loose too much bottom-end. On the other hand, the XR cam's too small when you really bump the compression or displacement.

400exRacerX, you are getting a Different Piston aren`t you? I thought you were going to get the JE 416 Piston. If you are keeping the Stock Piston then I would get the XR400 Cam, but if you get the JE 416 Piston then I would get the TC MX Cam.
