well you must buy the 250R grabbar and look how the mounts bolt on there. You need to weld bolt holes on there which could require some serious fabbing but i would prefer it..........

The Quadshop does this. I will have it done when they gusset my frame/subframe.

Here's a pic of mine. I welded in some 5/16" x 1" flat stock (had it, so I used it). The grab bar is for a DS650 (again, had it so I used it) and it fits fine. Although I did cut off about 4" of the grab bar mounts.

i have one from prm that welds on - the grab bar came with the brackets -also the grab bar has tabs in it for your stock tail light or for number plate

I and my buddy did this to our 400's, it's not hard. I have a AC grab bar for a 250r on mine, and he has a prm grab bar for a 250r. I cut off the stock grab bar and welded flat metal on the outside frame rail then drilled and tapped holes to bolt it up.

Resist the urge to weld it solid or to put a solid shaft down inside the frame. This would only help in trashing your subframe if the quad ever came back over. If you want to keep your stock tail-light then cut the metal brackets off and reweld them when your done.

This is not a hard proceedure, any machinist could do this. Buy your grab bar first then you know how much gap you have to fill on either side of the frame. I have pictures of mine, but can't put them on here.

Good luck

If your going to have it down to the frame, I would go ahead and have it gusseted. If you can't find anybody local, the Quadshop will do it.

I recently found cracks in my subframe right where the cross member that incoporates the seat latch meets the tube subframe. The weld had a fracture. And I have the stock subframe, not cut. My point? You might consider reinforcing that weld if you cut the subframe and bolt on a bar.

Just a thought. Otherwise, I like the grab bar better.

One of the aftermarket companies sells a kit to do this. I think it is PRM. I do remember that whatever company it is sells the kit with a 6 pack rack. Not sure if you can buy the kit by itself.
The kit is just a few flat pieces of steal like everyone has already said that they have fabricated.
