Has any of you ever put this in your 400ex frame? I remember some guy did it in Dirtwheels. It was suppossedly put out around 50HP with a STOCK XR650 engine, just imagine it with lots of mods!!! I was wondering if anyone has some information about where I could buy this engine, and whether or not I would have to do a lot of work to put it in?:blah :macho

Sounds like fun. lol. Also i was wonderin if I put a YZ125 motor in a quad frame if it is worth it or will it be nothin special since the weight of the quad frame would be to much for the engine and it would perform like it would on the bike frame

i think it would be neat to stuff a cr250 or cr500 engine into a quad.

WOOW, no way, I would never stuff a 2-smoke dirtbike engine in a quad unless you got some major cash flow. Those motors don't have a counter balancer (and no you can't install one).

Those lil buzzer's will rattle your teeth out.

Also a XR500R? is that from like 1980's,caue I only hear of the Xr50,70,80,100,200,250,400,600,650,and 650L, so where's this XR500 from?

an XR500r is a 4 stroke for on ething i think right. but it is true a dirt bike dont have any counter balencer and it will rattle your frame to pieces. if you think up a good way to soak up them vibrations that thing would run like a raped ape. but anyways look at how the motor was attached to the bike frame and maybe you could figure out some kind of rubber that attches to the motor and then the mouting plate. well i dont think it could be doen with out lots of money. why dont you wait alittle bit and see what honda is coming iut with. they will be releasing a new quad very very soon. it will twice as fast as n ex500r engine on the track

Only a 2 stroke dirtbike motor will have vibration proablems. None of the YZ 426 quads have vibration proablems.

hey i am just curious i have a few questions, one what is a counter blancer and what does it do? y doesn't 250r's have this problem(i am assuming they have a counter balancer?) and y does a 2-stroke engine have this problem but not a four stoke? just curious

Ok a 250R and other 2-smoke quads have a counter balancer, thats why they won't vibrate, and also IF you can rubber mount the motor, you are still going to get the buzz, but it won't be as bad,but it will still rattle.

Also some 4-stroke dirtbikes will rattle you to death,i think Rickey Stator has put a xr600 dirtbike motor in a 250r frame, and it rattled bolts loose.
The 426 may not be as bad cause it's not a Big Bore thumper.

A counter Balancer is just like a Harmonic Balancer on a car,its like a a wheel with weigths that smooths the vibrations of the motor I guess.

also just like the new aluminum framed CRF450 vibrates a lil, cause of the frame being aluminum and having more rigidness.

I hope I helped ya'll out a lil bit.

The counterbalancer, I'll try and explain this in lamens terms.
when the piston goes from top dead center to bottom dead center it creates inertia wich in turn turns to vibration. if you have seen a crank before you know that the one side has more mass than the other, when the piston is a the top of the cylinder the largest part of the crank is at the bottom, so the greatest part of the force is actually going towards the bottom of the motor. the counter balancer acts the opposite of the crank, the larger part of the counter balancer will be at the top at the same time to oppose the force of the crank, which lessens the vibration. the crank and the counter balancer are at a 1:1 ratio with each other so they always oppose. Not a bad explanation huh!:D

Thanks for all of the info... so you think it would rattle the heck outta me?

four storkes also have counter balancers. the crf450 and the yz426 and 400f do to.

Yes they do,but like I said before, the Big Bore 4-stroke will rattle your teeth out. cause Ricky Stator tried it once with a 250r frame!

dirtwheels had a 250r with a xr600 motor in it a couple years age. i was thinking of either this or a 350x motor in my 250r frame before i sold it but i didn't have the cash to do it. i have no clue if the xr600 has a counter balencer but it probaly does. i think the 400ex has one. it think the vibration has more to do with being a thumper and not a balancer problem.

As long as my four wheeler holds together, I think I will be ok. That is..... if I do this. It will probably be my summer goal.

go with a xr 600 over the 650. it should be lighter and i can't see hp difference being big
