hey i just sold my blaster and have trouble disiding what my next quad will be. i was wondering would a 400ex still be competitive with all the new quads that are out there.i would be racing in B class and some A class.also i was thinking about a cannondale or z400.

what do you guys think about it which would be good.

i would like to know how you are a B/A rider just coming off of a blaster, but hey, whatever you say chief. i'll take your word on that one.
ANYWAYS...
if you are a B/A level MX rider like you say, then there's really only a couple options you should be looking at if you want a high performance race quad:
1)YFZ 450
2)TRX450R
3)TRX250R (the classic "250R")
4) some hybrid YZF/CRF motor in a cutomized (and accordingly overpriced) 250R/400ex/laieger/LSR etc... frame
5) Predator
6) maybe the high end ($$$) Cannondale, although parts may become a liitle hard to get and resale might be crappy when you get rid of it (remember, they don't make em anymore)

the 400 ex is great fun, and plenty capable, but i have a friend who said his bro's STOCK YFZ 450 ran circles around his built 440ex...

the DRZ/KFX400 has issues with the frame cracking in like 7 places when jumped

both the DRZ/KFX and Raptor look a little top heavy/tippy at the local MX tracks, too. yeah, with enough money, that could be fixed, but why :huh  ? for the same amount of $$$ you can start out with a YFZ or TRX

hope this helped :huh ???

To be honest you can probably find a heck of a deal on a built 250R, 440ex or a Z right now because a lot of riders are taking a loss on their old race bikes and buying new YZs and Hondas. And yes if these machines are built they are more than competitive in the B/A classes. If you're racing nationals you better have a deep pocket though no matter what you get!

if you are running A/B class in the nationals your only going to be really competive on 4 or 5 machines

1) modded out yfz
2) modded out 450r
3) crf/ yz hybrid quad
4) Cannodalle modded out
5) or z400 which would need a ton of work

maybe if your racing A/B at district leval then i think u would be competitive on a 400ex with mods, atleast in the B class..

Yea..400ex's are still plenty competitive if you mod them right! If you have a good suspension set up, a descent motor, and your a good rider then you'll be fine. There is a guy on a 440ex that can place podium nearly every race in the A class at my local track. And there are some 416's in the B class. Basically, you'll be fine if you can ride...
