Personally i'd have a hard time deciding to cut up a perfectly good hood. I.m not sure but will you be able to get a clean cut with carbon fiber? Wouldn't the cut edges fray?

Have you thought about aftermarket lights?

I have a pair of Lazerstar light that have the bar clamp mount. The problem with these is the lights sit too high, above the cross bar on Renthal bars. The first thing to come off when you tip over is the lights, I know from experience:( The lights still work but the mounting bolts broke and they are about $18 each:eek2:

I currently have them mounted with custom made brackets that are mounted to flat piece of the steering stem.

My plan is to get a hood and mount the lights to the stem tubing below the 'T' with a custom clamp.

If you want to keep your stock lights maybe you could just get some number plates and trim them to fit around the lights if you want a black strip down the front. This way is a lot cheaper I wouldnt go cutting a hundred some dollar hood. Here is a pic of mine with the number plate before i put the 250r hood on.

You could always put a number plate on and just not put any numbers on.

The thing I like about mounting them to the bars or stem, the lights turn with the bars. Some people have mounted them to various parts of the frame under the front plastic.
This is an old pic before I broke them off

best thing to do for racing...is take the head light out....get a piece of plastic and trim it to fit in the old head light spot...and there ya go....head lights gone....bout 2 lbs gone....or you can go to nacs racing and get nacs head light caps...if your a mxer and a trail/night rider on the side....then the head light caps are the way to go..

Here's a pic of where I mounted my lazer stars. All I did was drill a hole in the fender mount bracket.

Yellow416ex,

That's a pretty tight install there.:) I've thought of doing the same type of set upexcept mounting the lights on the down tube. Like if you had rezzies....right there.

Thanks:cool:
As you can tell from the pic, my bumber was kinda limiting me on where I could put them. I didn't want them up high, because of reasons stated by others earlier. I was considering putting them on the front down tubes like you said, and have them behind the bumper shining through the corners of the bumper. That would've been ultra protected. But I got wide angle bulbs to throw more light out to the sides, and being tucked back behind the bumper would have interfered with the lighting pattern.

I think that I'll just get a number plate like K_Fulk has (just not da same num) and keep my stock lights ;)
