Kerosene or hot soapy water. Wash then squeeze out cleaner, let it air dry completely. Re-oil and install.

i use brake cleaneror sometimes plain gas. it breaks down the old oil real quick. i then rinse with garden hose and reoil. i have had no filter break down in almost 2 years.

yes, these guys are right. i usually just use gas because i have that on hand. i first take the filter off and remove the screen inside. then i put the filter in a can of gas and let it soak until the air filter oil is off of the filter. i then wash the filter in soap and water a couple times. then let the filter air dry and re-oil. put the screen back in and your ready to go. by the way, i usually put one of those rubber surgery gloves on my hand so i don't get that air filter oil all over the place. good luck

I bought a small plastic pail w/lid at Home Depot, that I put kerosene in. I just pop the lid, throw the filter in, swish it around a little, take it out, wash it with soap and water, air dry, re-oil, and go ride. Simple and easy. :)

NO!

From what I understand regular motor oil isn't formulated to suspend within the foam.

Some say if you use Gas it will break down the glue that holds the foam filters together. I've never had a problem with gas but I do use kerosine now. If you use motor oil or any other oil, 2-cycle, etc. It will eventually end up at the bottom of your air box. Just get the foam filter oil.

You can use gas for foam filters (NOT K&N), but do not let the filter into the gas for long time. Do not rinse with water if you plan to ride few mins after. Water takes long time to dry compare to gas.

I use no-toil filter oil and love it. You mix a bit of cleaning powder with some warm water in the sink and clean. Ive heard rumors that this stuff will break down the glue holding the filter together but it hasnt happened to mine and it is alot easier. No more smelling like gas for hours after a filter cleaning.:-)
