Just got my 400ex. I would like to know what kit is better, 416 or the 440, and about how much they cost. And also, what all would i i need to do to make sure i get the maximum performance out of these kits? any other things needed to be done? and also..i would like to know any other good upgrades to be done, like maybe an air filter..or something. and one more question..after hitting 5th gear, the bike revs up fast, is there anything to be done to make it not rev up so quick in 5th gear? any help is appreciated.

as far as the big bore kit goes the 440 will have more power and torque but the 416 will rev out higher and faster. It`s up to you really.

The other mods that would hepl are filter, jet, pipe and cam.

If you find your motor revs out to fast in 5 gear go to a 16 T front sproket. you will lose a little power not that much but you will gain more top speed.

could i just install one of the kits? or are there other things that need to be done, like be re-jetted or anything. how much do the kits go for?

yes you can put in just the kits. But rejetting is needed and a pipe and filter would help alot.

not sore abot the price in the states but it sould be around 250-400$ + labour if you can`t do it yourself.

I was looking at two different 440 kits. One was a 10:3:1, and the other was a 11:1 high compression. What is the difference between the two??

if your getting a pipe and air filter i would go with the 11:1 compression but dont go any higher to get out of the reliability range. It might be fine higher if you make some more mods to it (cam, heavy duty timing chain, better rod) it will work.

i would just call C&D and they will be able to hook you up. their prices are good too. if they are using wiseco pistons, i would definately buy the 11:1 ratio. you won't get much power out if just an aftermarket piston. a cam/piston combo will make the bike feel quite different. also, with a 440 you need to buy a new sleeve and have it bored and installed. with the 416, you can just bore out the stock sleeve which is easier and cheaper. yes, rejetting is highly recommended, but that isn't too difficult after you do it one time.

what in your guys' opinion is the best kit to get? i ride at tower city pennsylvania, which is a lot of trails, and hill climbs and stuff, and i like to have the power for the hills..so if that helps on which kit you reccomend. I dont really have alot alot of money to spend. i just want to get what i NEED to have to get a big bore kit to work, and get the maximum power out of it. also, what do you mean get out of reliability range? will the bike not work properly if i put one in? i dont want to have one installed, and then have problems with the engine..and so on..

i would just get something along the lines of a 416. i wouldn't spend the extra cash for the 440. also the 416, in theory, should run cooler which may be important because you ride on a lot of trails. i personally run a 406 with a 10.8:1 ross piston. i have not had any problems. i am also running the stage 2 cam. the thing is, my rpm's need to be up for the best power. don't get me wrong, it is still quicer than stock at rpm's that are a little low, but the best gains are up high in the rpm range. many don't believe me, but my 406 revs quickly and smoothly to the stock rev limit. it feels like it has excellent power and then all of a sudden it hits the rev limit. you wouldn't even expect it though. its really smooth and it feels like your one or two thousand rpms below the rev limit, but you aren't. in a drag race, my sparks ignition box makes a nice difference. maybe on the bigger bore that don't rev as high the extra rpm's aren't really important, but on my 406 it helps a lot. i would say there is about 5 bike lenghs difference using the stock box vs my sparks ignition box in a drag race up to 5th gear. you can buy the cam, piston, gaskets, and get the boring done for under $400 if you contact C&D so they can hook you up. good luck

i think their website is www.cdracingonline.com

however, you won't see most of their products online. you need to call them. you will see at the top of these pages their name and contact info. the # is 308-696-7805
