it will run ok...with ssd shocks you dont have preload adjustment, when you get the shock and mess with the settings you'll see why

the ride height adjustment replaces the preload adjustment, to raise your ride height you have to turn the top ring above the ssd spring down

Tommy how wide was your front end with the +1 Burgards, Elka Sag, and Stock Wheels?

Before i sent my rear to get an ssd conversion I took it for a ride with just the ssd fronts and the front end was a lot lower and the back end was still high. It felt like you were going to fall over the front. But i guess you can adjust them like muff said so that the ride hieght is the same?

so i should be fine, btw i ment adjust the rear preload to get it to sag a bit more like the fronts

Sagging the rear will work better if you aren't that heavy. If you're a big guy you're going to bottom out alot.

Darn I was trying to figure out how wide it would be, to know if I will need 4+1 wheels right away.

OK...

With the JRD +1's and Shamrocks the front is like 43" to the outside edge of the 2's

The rear is 46.5" to the outside edge of the 2's

Ok. I think I will be giving OMF a call tomorrow. Double check on the Douglas fronts. Ask him to measure them.

How in the world is the front only 43" with +1 arms? Ok, do you have some stock rims laying around, what is the offset? Is it 3+2 or 3 1/2 - 1 1/2? If they are 3 1/2 - 1 1/2 this doesn't make sense. Stock the 400 is like 43.5 or something, so with +1 you are at 45.5, take off an inch 44.5. That basically shows the stockers must be 3+2, because then you would take off 2 inches up front. :huh

hahahaha..I knew you overlooked that measurement..now your really confused.

Well, i triple checked the front. The quad is sitting nomally. The front to the outside of the tires is 43" on the dot...the arms are the +1's ...the rims are Douglas Billett center beadlocks 4:1 :p

hn, not meaning to disrespect your thread with all the sidebars.....just a quickie on what your doing with the ssd...you need to get that rear done as soon as ya can to get the most out of that bike! I was more or less in that position and it will drive ya nuts..but will be o.k. for a while :)

What also does not make sense is that mine is wider then yours with stock a-arms. I need to find out for sure what the stock wheel offset is. If it's 3+2 I will be ok with the Douglas, if it's 3 1/2 - 1 1/2 the Douglas would be the same as stock. Big difference in money is up in the air here. lol

I'm pretty sure they're 3 1/2 - 1 1/2. Is that 46.5 in the rear with stock rims and stock axle??

I went out to check it again, this time with a folding carpenters rule...the front is definitely 43" or a hair less, the rear 46.5"

Remlapr..the 250r/RPM axle conversion is off the quad waiting for new parts to reinstall, that measurements "as you noticed" are with the stock axle.

Dave.. there is margin for error and misinterpretation when attempting to interpret the end result from the info printed specs provide. I have both a 3rd front ulitmate AND a stock rim on the bench. The measurements do not completely justify the end results.

I am very tempted to believe your total solution lies only in Hipers or Billet 4:1 Ultimates.

Hipers it is! I guess I will be running the fronts with stocker rears for a little while.

I made a rear lowering link for my 400ex this weekend .
It replaces the link between main link & swingarm.
It lowered rear 2.50 inches measuring at rear grab bar.
Rode on it sunday & worked good.
I have front works shocks (They are NOT zps) & stock rear shock.
This could be an option for awhile to save some money .

I can email pic of it if you are interested... I was thinking about offfering them for sale.

If interested send me your email address for pics
