Well, since I am having some engine problems myself, I was thinking, would it be possible (and I mean without rebuilding the entire frame) to drop a Suzuki DRZ400 engine (like the one in the Z but not the detuned version) in a 400EX frame?

Anybody tried this?

Would be the perfect combo since Suzuki builds great engines and crappy frames.....and it has 48hp, reliable and stock!

Are the engine mounts very different?

it would take a good deal of fabrication to get the motor in there but it can be done. don't forget you'll have to mount a radiator and stuff, someting the stock EX doesn't have. itd be pretty neet tho i think

Going to check how my friends engine is mounted (has a z) and see if there are similairities...

You'd be better off putting it into a Z frame, and if you do that, you are better off just bringing an LTZ motor up to DRZ spec. If you are set on putting it into the EX frame, just like anything, it can be done, but there will be substantial cost. Last I checked, there weren't any companies offering conversion parts for that swap. You would have to figure out motor mounts, and an exhaust, as well as a large list of other things. Do some research on it, and you can decide whether the work and expense is worth it to you.

if you have the 400ex it might be easier and probably less money to sell it and buy a z400.

Well I live in Belgium. A new Z is about 8000 euro (dollar will prob. be about the same) and almost nobody wants to buy a second hand Honda anymore, so if I am lucky I can sell mine for about 4500 and I still need an additional 3500 to buy a new Z......

U are so lucky with the prices you get. YFZ is about 10 000 here....not to mention that all parts here cost about twice as much as in the USA.....:(

Ok, before you go buying a Z or putting in a DRZ motor, do one thing first; move to the U.S. :D That will make things easier on your wallet.
