Damn....wow it hurts to type. I need to get into better shape.
D&B I am going to Rausch on both days. I will be bringing my family and camping.
Seatec the laddy that singed me up said I should run vet so I did and man there was some talent in that class! I doubt I will run it again. the b class a lot of people in it but I think I could have had a better race in that class. The vets had some really modified quads.

Eric, see that is what i understood about the vet class too. THey are not the over the hill kind of guys that i initally thought they where. They are often better than B or even A riders. hehe.

I guess seeing how you are a wreck that i will take the day after the HS at Tom. off to re-coup.:D
Man, its a two hour ride from here to Tomahawk.
Eric, are you going to keep hooking up with your buddy to go to these HS? Is his trailer big enough for 3 quads or can we put one in the Trucbed and two on the trailer? Let me know. We can ride with him and chip in for fuel and stuff or hook the trailer up to my Truck. Might be more Comfortable for passengers with the Crew cab and all.
Did you clean the quad yet?

Seatec I have a 16' trailer that will easily hold 4 quads. I going to get it inspected this week.
We will get something worked out to make the trip easier on everyone and with the price of fuel we need to do something. Is chris going to come??

no shot of that here bud. I almost got killed on the mx track at budds. When you go up the really big hill next to the office there is a tight turn to the left then there is a small double. well I forgot that is was a double not a drop and I nosed into the crator hard enough to smack my face on the bars. You can always tell a good HS track by looking at all the trees. If they are missing bark and all scarred up, you know it's going to be a good tight course. There have been so many times in a race when I came close to hitting a tree and then on the next lap I've come around and seen all the bark missing or the whole tree(small trees) run over.

It all depends on who shows up. At Budds yesterday the Kyte brothers raced in the vet class. I don't know if they raced when you did but they are pretty quick. The top 2 guys from last year in the vet class usually show up at all the points races. They can be pretty quick at some tracks. The B class is usually bigger so you usually have more of a variation of skill levels, but the top 5 or so guys are all pretty fast. Just race where ever your comfortable, I'm sure you'll do well no matter what class you run.

Yeah I think the more people who show an interest in changing the classes will help. Last year there were only a few people who showed up to all the races. If a lot more people start showing up on a regular basis then they will give more consideration to change it. It would be nice to have a C class but i don't think they would let my run in it because this is my second season in the B class. Some of the races are D-7 and D-6 points races. D-6 has a c class but I have to run B in order to get my points in D-7. I end up having to run with a lot of faster guys, and usually get caught by the faster c riders. It sucks.

Actually I just picked mine up from Jims house tonight and he was cool enough to squirt it off for me. He also said that that chit was like cement. It was awsome for him to do that for me because I didn't have the time or energy to do it today. I am going to give her a super bath tommorrow.

Yeah it usually takes 2 good washings to get that mud off. Mine's pretty dirty and I didn't even make it 1 lap.
There were a couple 450R's there but I didn't see any that were doing anything in the woods. The ones that came by me were just putting in first gear. My brother is thinking about picking one up this weekend. I keep egging him on, I'm curious to see how they run.

Hey checkster. Did old man grayson groom the track a little? it was all wooped out last year when i went. especially going up on the side hill. it was bad.
checkster
04-07-2004, 07:04 AM
he groomed it before the end of last year. yesterday was kinda rough. usually on the hill i just peg it in third and bring the front off the ground....pretty smooth. Yesterday that was not the case. Even the dirt bike guys there were going up the middle to avoid the whoops. I promised my kid buy the end of the year I would clear the double at the bottom of the hill. Usually I land on the top of the second hill......guess I just need to sack up, but man those guys on the dirtbikes make it look so effortless LOL

THat Bottom double is a little tricky since you dont have a good run on it and you cant practice jump it it with a better run because of them berm thats there. i bent the hell out of my pipe on the crf450 last year on the top jump. i was tryiong to hop it and panick revved it to much and looped it out. the pipe was bent up so far it was burning my behind when i rode it. :D

well last year I almost cleared the bottom double, course I landed to hard and bent the stock shock shaft(last time riding that season). Got some Axis shocks this winter and they felt like butter yesterday. I can get plenty of speed for the jump in 3rd just dont have enough nuts yet to bonsia it. Always rode woods and stuff so Im still trying to figure out how to control the quad in the air.
The double at the top of the hill......NO THANKS! that thing is like a freakin lauch pad straight up. Plus all hope of ever hitting it good are ruined by the washout right before the jump. I cant get the bike to hook up enough to get any speed on that one. Last year I tryed hitting it and the shee came off the pipe at the crest of the jump and nose dived throwing me over the bars....OUCH hahaha Didnt hurt anything but my pride though thanks goodness.

Yeah, i know how you feel about the jumping. Have you ever been at easton? if not, you may want to go. THe beginner MX track there is a great teacher for jumping. nothing that can really mess you up. Well, if you try hard enough everything can mess you up. hehe. Anyway, that track helped me to nut up and start jumping some stuff. like i said, nothing major but enough to help you jump the double at grayson's.

I might be there if my TIE rods come in today and i get some time t put them in. Any tips and tricks before i start this install?
I figure i would measure the intact tie rod from ball center to ball center and duplicate that measurement onto the new tie rods. see anything wring with this theory?
greghall
04-08-2004, 07:45 AM
No that will get you close but you want to mesure from the middle of the tires (as close to center as you can & mark eack tire)& get a mesurement in the front of the tire & the rear of the tire, you need about a 1/8 inch to 3/8 inch toe in.maybe you should post something about alienment but that the way I do it,just like a car.Eyeball it up to see.

That's how I do it. I've read write ups talking about taking the shock off and measuring toe in along the movement of the a-arms, but that way gets pretty complicated. Get it pretty close, you may have to adjust it the first time you ride it. I just get it close and then learn to deal with it.:D
seatec

On my rc cars, toe in would give you high speed linear stability and toe out gives you better cornering. why not toe out on quad when you do XC?
cletusEX
04-08-2004, 08:13 AM
Toe out gets real twitchy at higher speeds. I'm not talking about 5th gear tapped, but even in 2nd and 3rd gear your steering will be affected. That's not something you want when your awful close to trees.

Today was a bad day, I decided to go grayson's track today, We we're they only quads there, it was a horrible. A dirt bike rider cursed us out because my buddy went track up the hil and didn't go around the burm. The guy was in the air when buddy flew over the top of the hill. The guy said that we should learn the track, that was a "dirt bike" only track. I hate dirt bike riders, because they quads. I think more quads should go up there and tick them all off. Most of the dirt bike riders that ride there are complete *********s that need a punch in the face. We need a "quad" only track. :grr:

Who ever said ity was a Dirtbike only track doesnt know his *** fomr his elbow. everyone is welcome there and if grayson wouldve heard the guy say that he wouldve sent the guy packing. Most dirbikers are pretty cool though.
how was the track? im going to try to make it out to sugar hill tmorrow. had to wrench all day today and plug tires. Greg warned me but i still got two nails in both my rear tires damnit.

hey guys! I just got back from a great weekend of camping with the family and some friends. The new camper was a great step up from doing the tent thing.
Seatec ang Greg, we need to start thinking about a plan for the ride up to tomahawk. If I collect on a debt from a friend then I will have the trailer on the road. I need to get the thing inspected and I have been putting it off for weeks because it needs alot of work, but when I get done with it it will be like new. I can also talk to my buddy Jim and see what his plans are.

Every machine I've been on I've broke so there was no way in hell I was riding his brand new quad!:p I'm thinking I'll keep the 400 till the summer then see if I can scrounge up enough money to by something new. Was up there on Sunday and it is rocky as hell. Between the rocks and tree roots and stumps it is a rough course. You all better have some good skidplates. It's a fun course but you will be sore the next day. I've had some pretty bad last couple of races and am looking forward to doing well. Needless to say I will have the hammer down as much as possible!

Tomahawk was definetly rocky on Saturday...if they run the same course as last race you all better have some good skid plates. Also make sure the fender bolts are tight, I lost three this past weekend.

I never had a chance to race Cliffside, but I heard it was a pretty nasty course. It should be a fun race next weekend at Tomahawk!! There are not many big rocks, but on one side on the course it is like you never ride on dirt. I think all the top soil has been washed of the side of the hill. As for Andy he rides so fast I think he just skips over them!

OK ok. i wont change a thing on the quad. All of you happy now?? lol
Greg, i have that PRM skid plate too and its a monster. pretty heavy but i like how it also protects the linkage. I have to drill a hole on the side of the lincage cage so i can get to my clicker on the shock though.
Rocky is ok as long as we are not riding in a downpour.
Ill be setting my clickers way soft for that one, thats for sure and the Denton is going on full shock absorbent.:D

Well, of the low bux adjustable and rebuildable ones i think the Denton is the best one. THe Denton rebuildable is sold in a variety of brand names but they are all the same. THey are hard to get right now is what i understand though.
Girly man. lol hey, you can set your clickers down too. oh wait, you dont have any. buwahhahahah. J/K man.
I was just reading the PM race at bucks. I love it how they get the little jabs in regarding the YFZ and other E-start quads. Very creative. Thing like " Two Kick start quads made it off the line first" meaning forget E-start , its not working. i think its a hoot and funny as hell. Gotta love the coverage though. its awesome!:D

I run a WER and have had pretty good luck with it so far. It's a lot more expensive than the Denton but I like it a lot better. I know a lot of guys who run Dentons and love them. Your gonna want something up a Tomahawk. I have run that course without a steering dampner and it is a lot rougher.

A friend of mine had a wer on his kdx220 and loved it. I'd get a GPR but i already have a +2 steering stem and with the GPR setup i think my clamp would be way to high because it adds like an inch or so don't it?
cketus, are you setting yours on hard or nedium for tomahawk?
cletusEX
04-12-2004, 08:33 AM
I run mine on hard pretty much all the time. With the WER when it is on hard the bars still move smoothly, I know when I had a Denton when you set it on hard the bars where a lot stiffer. The WER works differently than the Denton. There is not as much resistance until you hit something than the resistance kicks in.

It mounts right behind the front bumper. I didn't have it mounted right at the last Tomahawk race and the arm that attaches to the stem got bound up and snaped. I got it setup right this time.

Yeah I had a hard time mounting my Denton when I had one. A buddy of mine just mounted a PEP on his YFZ and it actually went on pretty well. It attached to his engine mount. I don't know if that is the same as a Denton, but it looked pretty nice.

If you are I am sure glad I am not into MX I would hate to have to eat your roost all the time, although it would only be for a brief second as you lapped me.
Seriously though When I do make it back accross the bridge I would like for you to teach me some MX tricks because they would be helpfull for when I get out onto the track during HS races
