Hi, I have a 01 400ex. I put new oil in the quad and have been running it for about 4-5 hours and now the oil is very low in the resivour. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what could be wrong? Does it need new rings or is this normal?
Thanks
Brian

Make sure you run the engine for a while before checking. The oil will gravity feed back into the engine and appear to be low.
If still low, top it off and ride in front of someone that can check for signs of smoke. If blue smoke is seen, engine problem. It may have just been low from the oil change.

if your 400ex is burning oil I think your smoke would be white...have you ever tried to fill it back up with a little more oil & see if it does it again? also, did you ride the 4 wheeler b/c that causes the oil to splash around on the sides...just warm it up for 5 minutes on a completely even surface ;)

Your vavle guide seals may be leaking causing oil to get into the engine. Burning oil produces blue smoke when the engine is warm and white when it is cold. Are you sure you put the correct amount of oil in the tank after the oil change? Those are my suggestions.
