What kind of HP would you expect to see from a 400ex built to a 426 with a hot cam stage2 and full yoshi exhaust. I would guess between 35-40 horse but thats just my guess. And this would be on a new 400 with the bigger carb.

35 or so sounds feasable. Figure it is what, 27HP stock?

I am leaning towards buying a new 400ex for the simple fact that I can make most of my R parts bolt on to it. I just dont know if the lack of HP would be worth the trade. I dont ride in the sand, mostly MX and some trail. I want around 40HP without getting into a ton of motor work.

HP isn't everything. Torque is what moves the quad. With a 440 kit, Yoshi exhaust, and a cam 40HP sounds very reasonable though, coupled with arm wrenching torque.

I totally agree with that. But I ride a Mx track that is for motorcycles and you need around 40 ponys to make the short runs to the jumps. Other then that I could care less about it. Hp dont mean squat unless you want the fastest quad in a strait line. I thought about the 440 kit also but I havent been able to ride either so I dont know if the extra cash to get it resleeved is really worth it or not. If I had a ton of money I would get a YFZ but I am really not all that impressed with them for the extra
2000$ You can make an ex scream.

Would making gearing changes work for your different riding styles?

the duncan racing 440 national kit claims 42 hp for the 400ex, the yfz stock is 37 and in a drag once they both hit 3rd the yfz was gone, its all about the delivery and what not, a 400ex capable of beating a yfz isnt reliable, if it was id still be riding a 400ex
