I recently did this swap and thought I would post some info on this topic to help others thinking about improving their old 250x or 300ex quad. This is actually a simple swap that can be done in a few hours. For those of you who don't know this swap adds about 1 1/2" to the length of your quad and gives you a shock that has a remote rezzie and is adjustable.

The top bushing in the 350x shock must be drilled out to fit the 250x bolt.

You will need to mount the rezzie on the frame next to the airbox.

For a softer rider you can put a 400ex spring on the 350x shock, I chose to stay with the 350x spring.

The bottom shock mount can be flipped over to change the ride height of the rear of the quad.

The 250x and 350x axles will interchange. I kept my adjustable durablue from my 250x with the 350x carrier.

You will need to make a spacer for the swingarm in order to line up your sprockets. I needed a 1/2" spacer on the left side, but my frame has been modified to add more strength to the pivot bolt area most quads need 3/8" on the left and 1/8" on the right.

The 350x axle can be used and is actually 2 inches wider than the stock 250x axle and has the same bolt pattern. I sold it to one of my buddies for his 250x.

You will need to buy a new chain or simply add a link or 2 to yours because of the longer swingarm.

I am sure there is some stuff I forgot about but this should get you started on the swap. You can pick this stuff up used or off of ebay rather cheap and is an easy upgrade for your 250x or 300ex when compared to buying all aftermarket stuff. Anyone who has done this swap themselves and have some more tips that I have forgot feel free to post them!

Hope this helps.

did you use the 300/250x carrier or the 350x they are inter changable ?because I think you will need to make up the diff with the spacers depending on witch one you use. just some advice.and buy the way will the 300 cailiper fit the 350x breakstay?

I used the 350x carrier with my aftermarket durablue axle with the durablue sprocket hub. With this setup a 1/2 inch spacer on the left side worked fine.
I agree the 300ex carrier and the 350x axle will require different spacers.

Thanks for clearing this up!

I did the conversion and I used 2 1/2 inch washers on the sprocket side and used like 5 on the other. As for the axle I used the 350x axle with 86 style sprocket and bolts. I opted to use a Raptor shock with custom lower shock mount to fit the 350x swingarm , as the 350x shock had less travel due to the aqngle when installed and was way too stiff. I used the 350x disc and caliper bracket. I believe the disc is also smaller in diameter which gave me more ground clearence
IS the 250x/300ex extended axle wider than the 350x axle? If so by How much

You ask a very good question. I bought my durablue axle from a guy who said it was a +2 +4 adjustable axle. It actually measures +4 +6 over stock 250x axle. I am guessing it is a +2 +4 350x axle, because I have not found a dureblue +4 +6 250x axle. At the widest setting with my rear tires and wheels it measures almost 52" at the widest point of the tires. I will have to adjust it in an inch or so for the races where they actually check the width of your quad.

Do you have any pictures of your raptor shock bracket that you made. I might be enterested in using the raptor shock instead of the 350x shock.

i never heard about a bracket for the rappy shock? any info plz, i'm gonna buy a 2001 rappy shock, i heard no brackets needed...

as for the 350x swing arm, if i get the swing arm, carrier (can i take the 300ex carrier for the 350x shock?) and axle, i should be ok? did you used the 300ex disc brake and all the mounting?

so what did you bought to make this fit, and if you dont mind, how much?

More pictures please, of everything you talked about. I am very interested in this.

Show the pivot bolt spacers.

Show the top mounting an any modifications that need to be made to the 350X shock or the 250X frame.

Are there any other places to mount the rezzie? I'm planning on putting a nitrous bottle there, so I would need to mount the rezzie someplace else.

I didn't have to do any mods to the frame. All you have to do to the shock is slide the top bushing out, put in a drill press and drill it out to the size of your original 250x top shock bolt. I will post a pic of the spacer i used as soon as my computer loads it.

It is actually a 1/2 inch long piece of think walled pipe.

I mounted the rezzie on the left side so that it would stay cooler because the pipe is on the other side. I guess you could mount it anywhere you wanted to.

Nitrous on a quad.......sounds like a ride!

When I first put it on, it was pretty cool. It was on a little 250X, and it brought the front wheels up in 3rd gear. But the motor was old and I blew the rings. I had a grin from ear to ear.

I'm going to do the 250x/350x conversion and put nitrous on, and putting the 350x swingarm on would be perfect at the same time. It may be a few months before I actually get started on the project, but I would like the info so I know exactly what I'm going to do.

Question....will i be able to use a stock 300ex shock? The 350x shock i have is blown (can these be recharged or rebuilt?). And to clear this up, I can just change the carrier and axle over to a stock 300ex swingarm and be fine?

Thanks

If you have both shocks you should be able to see the bottom of them are different. You would have to build some kind of mounting bracket in order to use the 300ex shock with the 350x swingarm.

I have not tried to put a 350x carrier and axle in a 300ex swingarm, but I believe it should work.

I see you have a 350x swingarm on yours, How did you deal with mounting the caliper?

I thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead.

I have a question. Is there any possible way that a 300EX Swingarm guard will fit on the 350X? I know I could probably drill some new holes.., just asking.

Could I just get the 350X Swinger and shock, and put the 250X carrier and other stuff back on? I've heard from some people that this will NOT work?

Oh yea. Does the chain silder actually make contact with the chain.., or does it not touch at all because of the spacer? If it doesn't touch.., does it make much of a difference?

Thanks.
