I have a 400ex with full systym pipe, air filter and jetted. What kind of power would i get from putting in a 11:1 std bore piston and stage 1 or 2 hotcam in. Also would i lose any bottom end if a put in the stage 2 with my setup?

if you would put stage 2 hot cams, you would lose some bottom end, and gain more mid and alot of TOP END

You would feel a pretty good gain through out. If you don't want to lose bottom end, look for a better all around Cam.

With an 11:1 piston and a Stage 2 Hotcam, the bottom end power will be about the same as stock. But the mid and top will be much stronger. You're looking at about a 4-5 RWHP gain at peak. That's about a 15% gain over a piped only EX. If you can do the labor yourself, it'll only cost you about $300. If you're looking for actual dyno numbers, my 416(mods in signature) made 33.5 RWHP on a conservative dyno. I have the dyno sheet if anyone wants to see it.

On a side note, a Yoshi piped/jetted Z400 made 29 RWHP 5 minutes before my EX on the same dyno.

what is stock HP and what are some good cam companies

Typically 24-27RWHP, depending on the dyno. On the dyno that mine has been on, they dyno around 24-25 stock.

Personally I would get an Engine Builders Cam. I just ordered a TC that should be on it's way. I have also heard good things about Cams from GT Thunder, FDO, the HRC, and more.

The GT Thunder, the Web 479, and the HRC all have the same specs. And those specs are very close to the same as the Stage 2 Hotcam. The only cam I'm aware of from FDO is HUGE. Pretty much drag race only. I've also seen some dyno runs comparing the Stage 2 versus the Sparks midrange cam on a built 440, and the horsepower difference was nil. For the money, the Stage 2 Hotcam is the SHIZNIT.

I agree you can't beat the hot cams for the money they perform great:D I have used alot of cams and went back to the hot cams

I run the Hotcam2. I lost bottom end over the OEM cam. But from say 3000rpm on its a ripper. Only difference I noticed on the bottom was the loss of wheelieing power. Really takes off and pulls much harder stan stock after that though.

You won't notice a gain with that piston though. On the other hand, you need the compression to work right with the cam.

Why not run a 416? You don't have to resleeve with that piston.

I run the 440 and mine has been wonderfly reliable. Just consult Colby at C&D. He won't steer you wrong. He helped me build mine and its been great.

Well I will have to give a review on the TC XC Cam. I hope it has a lot more bottom-middle then top.

so what would be recomended with a 416(i love to wheelie and rip and always be in front) stage 1 or 2

The only time I think the stage 1 would be okay would be for a stock piston. If the comp gets bumped up to 11:1 or higher I think the stage 2 is the best option. I rode a 11:1 JE 440 with a stage 1. It had incredible bottom end but a xr100 would outrun it on top end.

yeah thats what i wanna know i want 10.8 comp so no race fuel in a 416 so will it be better st1 st2 (i love to wheelie and rip and always be in front) i cant figure out what to do

With the higher compression piston you will gain some torque, so I would go with the Stage 2. You could also look at a TC cam.

will i have to run race fuel or a mix
cuz i dont wanna have to if i can help it cuz when we ride 1/2 the gas stations we stop at dont have it an i dont wanna get screwd

with 10.8:1 compression you can probally get away with premium pump fuel. that is what i run with my 10.8 piston. i would suggest the stage 2 cam. you won't quite have the torque at low rpms, but it builds fairly quick. if you need the bike for tight trails or something similar, the stage 1 might be better. the power band of the stage 1 cam that i dealt with wasn't as smooth as the stage 2.

like cals400ex said, stage 2 power is awesome, but not real "smooth" on tight trails. it seems for climbing hills, you really have to stay on the gas and keep the engine revved with the stage 2. and on tight trails, it does not like to be lugged around, it seems the stage 2 likes you to be on the gas. i guess thats the way it should be, this cam was built for open spaces. i like it, but it did take a little getting used to as far as trails are concerned.

I have a stage two cam. And I also race XC, Because the stage 2 doesn't like to be lugged, I found that I am going through the tight woods alot faster than I used to, because I'm in the gas more.

I could see how you would go faster because of it bogging. Hopefully that theory works for me too.

are white brother cams ne good?? i have one and it gave me all around good power but u guys arent saying ne thing about it so is it junk or what???

white bros. makes a track cam and a all around cam. the all around cam is not too much more aggressive than stock and the track cam is pretty aggressive for a dropin cam. i don't have any experience with either one, but i would only consider the more aggressive one for my riding style. if you have one, i would leave it in unless its giving you problems.
