As soon as my piston kit is broke in I will be switching to Mobil 1 also. Way too many exriders swear up and down about how good it is not to try it. I've also seen two different articles about Mobil 1 and how it holds up better than any other oil.

i run the mobil 1 15-50 in the warmer months and the 10-30 in the colder months. it seems to be good stuff. this oil is not cheap. i think it is about $23 for a five quart jug at walmart here in illinois.

10-30 full synth Mobile 1? I don't think that's OK to use. I believe it has the dreaded "friction modifiers" in it that you need to avoid with a wet clutch setup.

your running the cheap nasty stuff....it might be fine now but later done the road your engine will wear & tear b/c of that ****...my friend run that in their utilitys but I dont think it matters in them as much b/c they dont really rev so high

Conventional oil breaks down in about 3 hours.

Synthetic takes about 25 hours and the stuff is still far from being black like the conventional oil.

Why use anything else:confused:

Dad is lookin at me shakin his head no and saying 20w-50 Valvoline Conventional.

BTW, Rico...are you racing at Linton again this year in the MSWS?

the synthetic definately makes the bike shift smoother. i think it will have less wear on the bike too. i have not had a problem with my clutch in 3 years with mobil 1 synthetic.

Yes, I'll be at linton.

And yes you can run the valvoline but why run an oil that breaks down waaaaay sooner and has to be changed waaaaay more often. 3 years of mobil 1 syn. and not a problem one except for having a smooth running motor.. Tell dad it's 2004 and not the 70's. Synthetic oil is were its' at...;) :D dont' hit me dad..LOL

Mobil 1 actually makes a full synthetic designed specifically for 4 stroke motorcycle applications. It is designed specifically for wet clutches as the red cap is actually designed for automobiles. Its called mx4-t. I get it around here at Kragen. If you email Mobil 1 they will verify the mx4-t is the oil recommended. :D :D

Wait this is what I did

I beeleive i had conventional oil IN First then switched to synthetic

no harms

but if you do it the opposite way I do think there will be a problem

because conventianal oil has all the molecules and all that crap that synthetic has.. But synthetic has more newer molecules and other substances so it will just be adding it on........... now you cant go do that backwards..

Prazak250EX

so what oil should I switch to for my 250ex?

There is nothing wrong with switching back to mineral oil from synthetic, and it won't hurt anything. I don't know why anyone would, though. Synthetics have a higher shear strength, which protects your engine from wear (better than petro oil), and it flows better in cold temps, which means less wear at start-up. They also don't break down under heat like a mineral oil does, which is even more critical in an air-cooled engine like the EX. The only downside is the price, but it's well worth it.

Synthetics are by far less likely to break down, but if your afaid to use it, use Honda 10W40 below 50 degrees and 20W50 above.
Change oil after 4hrs of hard riding and be sure to warm up the engine before running hard

Well after reading all of this post, after I break my 416 in, I think I will be switching to Mobil 1, or a Maxima synthetic.

What do you do if you are running syn. oil and had to change the cam. You have to go back to conv. oil to break in the new cam.

BSTURDIVANT
01-05-2004, 05:18 PM
Synthetic oil actually has better scuff resistance than petroleum based oils, just be sure to put moly or assembly lube on lobes and rockers. Fill the head cavity and ends of the cam with oil before putting the rocker cover back on. This assures that you have instant oil supply after starting-Don't let the engine idle
(keep above 1500 RPMs for first 15 minutes of operation)
