this is one of the questions that can never be answered, it's all about opinion. to me, i'd say the cannondale/yfz/banshee (i love the speed)/ and the 250R because of how long it lasted and it's great power capabilities while still being dependable and easy to drive. and i've driven all of those (own a banshee) except for the cannondale (almost bought one two years ago...damn that would've been nice :( )

once again, that is just my OPINION.

you didnt say whether sport quad or not so for a sport quad-400ex or 250r, utility quad- recon or fourtrax300

12-31-2003, 05:32 PM
yah if you are saying most dependable than the fourtrax 300's are the best

Since this is EX(sport)riders. I'm pretty sure he means sport quads.

I'd say toss up between 250R & YFZ.

Until Jan 28 that is..

Well it seems most of you are just thinking what is fast. If you stop and think about what handles the best, is most reliable, had good power and is fast I think it would be pretty close between the 250R and 400EX. Or if you want to go off sales the TRX300 is the best selling ATV ever. The canondales were plagued with problems when they first came out. I don't think I have ever seen a Krapasucki that didn't have problems. I haven't personally been around to many Z400s but it seems the 400EX has a little better chassis thought the Z 400 has better power. The Quadzillas were fast but not the best bike in the world. Those things were huge and heavy. The only place they are really any good is in the dunes. Banshees are decent and have decent power but aren't the best hadleing bikes in the world.

By the way I'd like to see a pic of the 500cc Banshee in stock form. Or uh wait it never was made. The banshee engine was originally in a street bike but the engines between the two are a little different. The street bike had power valves and the Banshee doesn't. I belive it was called an RZ350 but for somereason I can't remember for sure exatly what it was called off the top of my head. I don't recall there being a 500 version but even if there was what does that have to do with a QUAD shootout?

www.thebansheezone.com he did the conversion, but i dont think hes updated his web site

and i think the best overall PACKAGE quad with a good amount of everything is the 250r, its hard to say about the yfz cuz its so new, but i wouldnt dought if it took the title

i kno the quadzilla was probably one of the heaviest quad, but the engine can make up for that 500cc 2 stroke power , but i think the BEST handling and the smoothest riding quad is the DS650 , rides like a cadilac

No offense. I'm jsut talking from personal experience. I've let my 250R sit for a lot longer than that and it always seems to start in 2-3 kicks. Also as long as there is enough oil for the oil pump to pick it up you won't really have any problems in any bike.

My vote would go to the YFZ450 as the best factory sport quad to date.

In my opinion I would say that the best stock would have to be the 400ex. It might not be the fastest or the most powerful even though it is fast and powerful but I owned mine for over 3 years and had no huge problems with it. I think if it came down to reliability then the 400ex would definately get my vote.

If it was about speed and handling I would go with the 250R. I just bought an 87 which isn't built yet. I mean I haven't rode every bike there is and I don't say those cause I have owned each but I just like them both. The first time I just saw an R I hated it. After I rode one though and felt how fast it was and how nice it handled I loved it.

Anyway though even after saying all that it's hard to pick cause really I love quads no matter what. Quads are just fun it doesn't matter if it's a Banshee, Blaster, 400ex, 250R or whatever it's just fun to ride so that's all my opinon...Later

In 100% Stock form..hard one..
250R was nice.. but really not the best in stock form. It's the king of aftermarket quads.

Cannondale Moto would have been by far the best if it weren't for major motor issues. (Note: were talking 100% stock motor fixes excluded.)

I'd have to go with the new LT-R450. Not a monster out of the box, but it is the best in stock form because it takes very very little to get it raceable. Revalve, nerfs, and a kill switch, pull the peashooter, remove airbox lid, and add CB, and you're ready to race the c-class.

For bulletproof.. the old 250x/300ex of course. ;)

For fun fast and cheap to upgrade.. the Blaster.

The trx450r, yfz450, trx400ex, are all in close competition.
