WOW, i don't know why i read the entire thread after work :( . There is only like one post per page that has anything worth reading on it. It would be a nice thread if there wasn't so much BS in it.
I own a YFZ and I like to see things to look out for, thanks. I am not really worried because i am not as hard core as randy
its weird, my nephew is 130 and im 220, his frame cracked along the frame rails by the gas tank on his 400ex, and mine cracked on the foot pegs and shocks mounts, but never on those rails, ive heard of similar stuff
i think it depends on your riding style etc

I am assuming you mean me. My gibson front end worked awsome at southwick, the faster i went the better it worked. Just ask Natalie, he seems to like his. But i don't have half the sac he does.
oh yeah, didn't have it for jolly, i got it 2 days before the nacs race.

Make sure to call it "maybe suzuki owners shouldnt look in here"
I can provide pictures of my swingarm and a-arms for the ""maybe honda owners shouldnt look in here" thread. I didn't get any pics of the cracks in the EX's frame and subframe though.
I can't understand why people keep comparing a cracked frame to a broke in half frame. Go look at the pic again and tell me if you see a crack or a frame broke in half being held together by a ratchet strap. Big difference people.. BIG difference
80 foot doubles don't mean chit. Riders do it all the time on stock frames so whats the big deal
I cased a 75 foot double that tore all kinds of things up but I didn't have to call a search party to find all the peices of my frame..:huh
I also broke a arms ( shock mounts pulled off) swingarm ( cracked by pivot) Frame ( shock mounts, and foot pegs)

WOW!!! 18 pages about a broke frame
rotflmao:blah:
Im with Rico-the frame broke pretty bad-looks like a friends Raptor that broke nearly the same way in about the same spot-(by the legs)broke in 4 spots, and hes not a heavy rider, just rides hard. MAYBE it is a yamaha thing.
Personally I think yamahas wanting to save weight came back and bit them in the ***, they used thin walled tubing to save weight and look what happens. I predicted this would happen.
I ride an R and the frame develops cracks every now an then(it is nearly 18 years old) Im a hard rider but generally smooth. But at least I have no worries about my frame braking in half, if I did, I wouldnt ride like I do or I would get something else.

I am going to be gettin a 450 soon and when I do im not going to pick because of Brand I want what will last me the longest and save me the most money. They are both 450's the speed difference will probably not be enough to tell.

I cracked my 400EX frame above the left shock mount, would have broke it too, if I didn't sell it! Point is every frame has its weaknesses if you ride hard.

Jeezuz!
I am sending a truckload of Tampax and Midol to a couple of peoples houses soon!
Two or three tools have to get their panties all waded up over a stupid frame crack. Who wants cheeze to go with their Whine? Pappy posted pics of a frame problem. Get over it.
I can't believe I read through 19 pages of this but Pappy, you made it fun.

My 400EX and my 250R both had problems with the frame cracking.
Thats what happens when you ride them to hard. Where the front shock mounts on the 400 and where the peg bolts into the frame on the R. I have had no problems with my new YFZ up to date, but there is a lot less time on it. It smokes my honda's though. I can't wait to race the new 450R. When will it be available to the public?

Learn how to read *******, My frame got cracked on my 400 in 1 place and my R in 1 place, not in half. Any one of my 3 hondas are not blue and I am not from blue trax. Stop being pissed off that the 450R is'nt out yet, its not my fault You people at this site are always pissed off. I dont go to Yamaha sites and diss Honda. The YFZ is a kick *** machine. I am sure that the new 450R will kick *** also so chill out.

well ive never seen a yfz with a stock subframe break a frame there...
perhaps yamaha uses the somewhat weak stock yfz subframe to absorb stress in a crash
sometimes stock is stock for a reason
manufactuers do more r and d than aftermarket companies
I'm curious if that subframe played a roll in it breaking there
also, things don't just break, they crack then break not looking your quad over carefully enough can let things like this happen
Most likely this crack started months ago or after a crash or something, it got worse and worse and broke, the subframe may or may not of played a roll in it, im sure it didnt help, its designed to be stronger, that puts stress on other areas of the atv..

wow that frame had to get abused. Just think Kory Eliis went all race season and had 1 crack where the shock mount is and his frame didnt have no gussets. All stock frames always crack there so its no shock. I have faith in the YFZ frame as it is. I got the best suspension set up put there.

That might qualify as THE dumbest comment of the year. Wait, it's just the start of 2004 so I dub it THE dumbest comment of the year:)

Sometimes dumb is dumb for a reason so whats your point? Thanks for enlightening us that manufacturers might do more R/D. Gee, I can die a happy man now knowing that. Actually I am curious if really hard riding on a crap-*** frame caused it. Ya think??? Ya think maybe it was a doomed frame from the start? Noooooooo!! Perish the thought!

You seriously think someone as accomplished as he would not have his frame inspected before he rides? Stupid is a stupid does!
kentucky...hahaha funny stuff:)

well ive had enough of this bickering.
i know the rider personally. i also know the quad hasnt taken any type of wreck that would lead to such a break. i also know that you wont believe me and i dont really care. i didint post and i still dont think this will be a huge yfz problem but none the less its there.
lets hope this is the only frame in yamaha history that suffers this ones fate.
