I am planning my first season of racing some GNCC's and I am debating what class to run. I am 32, and have about 15 years of agressive woods riding experience, one full season of C Class Arenacross racing, and one Harescramble. I ride a lightly modded 400ex.
I was looking at the Vet class, or 4-Stroke Novice 25-32. I am kind of trying to avoid being caught behind all of the AM Utility classes, but I am looking for suggestions on any class as I am new to GNCC racing. What are the pros and cons of the AM races vs. the PM races? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Pros of Am races:
Smoother track
Easier to make your own lines
You're not as likely to get lapped
Larger classes
You will get to watch the Pros race
You will know all the goods spots to be a spectator in the afternoon

Cons of Am races:
New track presents problems like bottlenecks that get worked out before the pm race
Utilities
Starting behind other "C" classes
Larger classes
Getting lapped by women hurts your ego the first few times

You will be surprised how fast those utilitys go.

try out the C class & see how fast you are & trust me some of those ultility guys will smoke you they are fast.I was a vet A rider & champ in my district & had a hard time with the top ultlity guys & also there are alot of sand baggers in there to that should be A riders.

I'm planning on running as many GNCC's as I can this year. I'll run the 25+ in the morning. I ran my first and only cross country race last year and was suprised how darn fast everybody was, even the ute classes. ( I thought I was pretty fast). I'm sure you will do well in the 25+ class with your racing experience. The vet class has some much faster riders.

see how fast you are in the C class because it sucks to be knocked off the track & crashed by the real fast guys in the PM class you better get out of the way fast or you will be crashed.

Those guys/gals on the utes will surprise you at how fast they can be, plus they are good at pulling over when you come up behind them. Overall everyone has been good about pulling over to let you by with just one holler. The bottle neck at Crawfordsville was enough to pee-off the Pope. Spent more time sitting after busting my booty to get a head of everyone.

C 25+ (now 25-32) is a good class to run, and is usually one of the largest, but will probably be a bit smaller with the addition of C 32+. Hopefully you can run some races with me, Taco, Rico, Wyndzer, Remlapr, etc.

And the Ute guys are fast, Penland will blast by you like you are sitting still.

spincr4hire, so now they have an "ole farts" c class? Dang, they keep moving you youngens further up the field. Being that far back I might as well just run 1st year again this year.

Wow! Thanks guys! I got alot better idea of what to do now. I will definitly go with the AM race in the 25-32 class. You brought up alot of points that I never thought of. And I guess utilities have changed alot over the years. We will have to exchange some info, so I can meet you guys and girls at the races.

What class are all of you running?

In the 4 Stroke Novice classes, will the 16-24 class launch before the 25-32 class?

Taco

Yea the 16-24 class takes off b4 the 25+ from what I remember

Wingnut

They mix it up, but not evenly. Last year the 16-24 class was the first C class only twice. Usually the 2-Stroke C class is first.

seriously.. drinking the night before a race is the worst thing you can do as far as hydration and feeling good race day.. so i quit drinking the night before the race and it really showed on race day.. i can ride hard for 11 minutes but can really knock em out after the race since my buddy drives... all jokes aside your only gonna be as good as you want to be.. if ya wanna ride like sh$t drink beer .. if ya want to ride long and hard.. it takes alot of work!!!! i've been running while i've had this broke hand and am sure it will pay off as soon as i can ride again.. beer after the race!!!

I think Jeff thought you were talking about Vet Class. I believe the 4 Stroke Novice C 33+ class runs AM, Vet is 30+ in the PM. Am I right on this Jeff?
