If all are new and the same price, which of the following would you choose for MX? Why?

Swingarm Choices:
1. Laeger +1 1/4"
2. LSR +1 1/4"
3. Houser +1 1/4"
4. Walsh +1"
5. Fab-Tech +1 1/4"

I'm looking for unbiased opinions on which would be the best choice for racing. I would like strength, reliability, easy of installation, etc. with a swingarm.

Thanks.

I would definetly pick rpm, you get a 3 year warranty, great looks, open back for grease zerks, awesome quality, comes with some hardware, and 650 bucks, now how can you beat that!

I agree the RPM seems like a great deal. I know some of the local guys run Laeger and Houser and have good luck with both.

I would go with a Laeger Walsh or RPM. There all pretty strong.

i agree but they need to drop the price 100 bucks. i reckon that covers any warranty issues and thats fine and all but i cant bring myself to spend that much on a swing arm:(

Pappy, that's just how I feel. I went for the RPM Dominator axle and love it. Tough as nails. But I got it for a great price too. Now, the RPM swingarm is a bit to high for me.

I was actually looking at a used Laeger +1.25", and a Walsh +1". I currently have Laeger +2" a-arms, so I have been debating going with the Laeger +1.25". What do you all think?

My Laeger swingarm is about 5 years old and holding up great. Guy that had it before me raced GNCC, I probly havent been near as hard on it for the 2 years i have had it.
The only bad thing about the laegers is you have to find a special +1.12 skidpalte to go along with it.

well it depends on the money you have set aside for the swing arm.

walsh stuff is damn nice and is top of the line. if you can swing the used leager and its in good shape then i say go for it. ive seen every swing arm made crack so we all take the same chances. you wont go wrong just check out anything used to the best of your ability.

isnt laeger like 7 50?

i dont know i think 650 is a good price

I would just get the used Laeger or Walsh. Get some new pivot bearings, have it PCed, and be set.

The length is right but you would have to use spacers to ge it away from the swingarm enough. Maybe they have changed them since mine was made the guy I got it from got it before he even got the quad in 99 or 98 when ever he got the quad.

I picked up a pro tect skid on ebay cheap for it and cut off the sprocket side so I wouldn't have to remove the chain slider when I put it on.

oh i see

mine i had to cut the kick ups on the back and bend them down then have them rewelded
or run spacers about 3/8 to clear the rotor and sprocket

gibson400ex,

416exmx has two of the swingarms I was looking at. I'm looking to spend up to about $350 on a swingarm.

I just don't know what to do. I am debating on getting the Houser, Walsh, Laeger, or the new Fab-Tech. Is Walsh much better in quality than Houser or Laeger, or are they all about the same in quality? I also think about the "new vs. old" thing. Should I opt to get Fab-Tech, who hasn't been proven for years like the others? They do come with a warranty, unlike the used parts.

What would all you recommend doing? I'm so confused right now, and I need answers.

What makes you say that? Is Walsh just really trick?

I found a Laeger +1 1/4, in good shape & never raced on for $270 shipped. What do you think?:)

Walsh is IMO one of the highest quality chassis part makers.
Roll, Walsh, and Laeger are extremely high quality, have awesome customer support, and have proven themselves over time. Other companies do come close though

I'd say thats a steal for $270 shipped if it looks good and hasnt been abused

Did some of the Laeger 400EX swingarms have only 2 pinch bolts? Also, is there a downside to have only 2 pinch bolts instead of 4? Thanks.

Some of them might have had only 2, but the picture on Baldwin's site shows 4, and that picture has been on there forever. I'm sure 4 would be better, but the 2 would work just fine.

WKY400EX
01-02-2004, 04:43 PM
Yeah. That's what I was thinking, because all the Laeger swingers I had seen had 4 pinch bolts. I even emailed Laeger themselves, and they said all their 400EX models had 4 pinch bolts.

If it were you, which would you choose, and why? I'm about to buy, and I'm having a hard time deciding. Both are nice.

Dave400ex

Hard choice, but I would go with Walsh. Just hard not to run what all the top Pro's are. Plus I have never heard anything bad about Walsh.

WKY400EX
01-02-2004, 07:23 PM
I was kinda leading toward the Walsh for the same reason. Although, I've heard good things about Houser too. Stupid question, but will I really notice the 1/4" difference between the two swingarms (+1" vs. +1.25").

WKY400EX
01-04-2004, 01:23 AM
Decided to go with the Walsh.
