I just purchased a 1994 300ex, and the chain is way too tight. I'm new to the atv's but mechanically inclined. How do I adjust this thing?

go to the rear end, losen the 2 bolts at the end of the swing arm. in between the sprocket and the swing arm is a disc thing, with little nudges in it, stick the allen key in there and spin it, u spin it down to tighten and spin it up to losen.

what you want to do to check the chain is compress the suspension so that the center of the countershaft sprocket, swing arm pivot and rear axle are all in a straight line. This will be the tightest point in the suspension travel for the chain. You want to have about 1/8" of play at that point. To adjust it you loosen the alen bolts in the back of the swing arm and rotate the bearing carrier by insering the alen wrench in the notches on the side of the bearing carrier next to the sprocket. Then tighten the alen bolts back up. They should be a 6mm alen.
