I got my oil tank all fixed from when it was leaking. Today I go to put the oil in it, and it held it great, with no worries. I put about 1.9 quarts in it. I turned it on and let it idle for about a minute and shut it off. I checked the dipstick and it shows no oil at all. I am afraid to run it some more when it shows no oil. Did I not let it run long enough and let it go through, or is there something wrong? Thanks

Hosted Did you happen to have one of your side cases off at the same time. When i take mine off tons more oil comes out, then i have to put about 2.3-2.5 quarts back in.

No, I didn't have my side cases of. I talked to a guy that I ride with today and he said that it happened to him before and one of his lines was clogged. Cause it heats up and gets really really hot in about 10 seconds of being on. It looks like I'm going to be taking off all of my lines and checking them tomorrow. I sure hope I can get better luck with this 400. I have only rode it for about 10 minutes, and it has been getting this oil system worked on for the last week. My banshee doesn't even give me this many problems :(

So how did the weld look??
Did you have to trim the bushing any?

You should let it sit for like 5-10 min after you shut it off, then check it.

The weld turned out very nice. It worked great. To make sure I took JB weld and covered the whole weld. If it comes apart or leaks, I'll be amazed. I let it sit for over an hour at times and there was still nothing in the tank. I'm just going to take all of the lines apart tomorrow and blow them out. Hopefully I can find the problem in there, I sure am getting sick of working on it and not getting to ride it. It is a pain in the butt, but I am learning quite a bit about these motors and hopefully am getting all of the bugs out before I ride it hard.

Just so you know:) .....
Checking the oil as per the Honda Owners Manual:
1. Make sure the vehical is on level ground.
2. Start the engine in a well-ventilated area and let it idle for 5 minutes. If the air temperatures is below 10*C (50*F), let the engine idle for an additional 5 minutes (atotal of 10 minutes).
3. Stop the engine.
4. After a few minutes, remove the oil filler cap/dipstick from the oil tank and wipe it clean.
5. Insert the dipstick without screwing it in, then remove the dipstick and check the oil level. The oil level should be between the upper level mark and the lower level mark on the dipstick.
6. If required, add the specified oil into the filler cap hole, up to the upper level mark on the dipstick. Do not over fill.
7. Reinstall the oil filler cap dipstick.

CAUTION:
Running the engine with the improper oil level can cause serious engine damage.
