Ok 2 Questions.

1) I tore my quad down last night and am ready to take off the piston. But I cannot figure out how. How does the pin come out?

2) How much carbon build up is normal? The top of my piston was black. Is this normal. The walls of the cylinder look ok, no scratches or anything.

Thanks guys.

carbon is normal, you have to take the cir clips out of the groove and then your wrist pin will slide out, don't you have a service manual

heheh :p

Yea I got the manual. Wouldn't have gotten that far without it.

What tool do I use to take the pins out? I think I have to look at it again, I think I'm missing something.

i always use a set of angled micro needle nose pliers and there is a notch machined in the hole where the slot is and you can stick the pliers in there and grab hold of the clip and pull here right out

You should have two little G-clips on each side of your piston pin, take them out with needle nose, then the pin should slide right out.

Well they probably use different ones in four strokes, the last engine I took apart was a 2 stroke, and it was a much smaller engine, so they probably don't need cir clips, either way there's clips on each side of the pin.:p

Okay I know what you talking about. That's what I thought, but I just didn't want to go pulling on the wrong thing.

Thanks again.

just a note... pack rags around the rod just incase you drop one.;)

Yep, what sickmojave said. I dropped one into a crankcase once and forget about getting it out with out a tear down. Also blew up a small back pack blower doing the same thing, no wonder I could find the dang clip. you should have seen the piston when it got sucked up into the cylinder.

Thanks Sick and Red. Already have the rag in there. Thats actually a tip in the book.

Have to admit the manual is pretty good.
