How about 11 on an LT250R? Or 8 on a LT230E? Depends on your maturity.

it all depends on your size and maturity...if your 5'1 120 pounds i don't think its a good idea..but if your like me...15 and 6'1 160 pounds then nope you should be good.

my 11 year old cousin can ride better wheelies on my 400ex than i can. and another cousin, the 11 year olds bro, that is 17 now has been riding since he was 4 and started on a modded lt250r. if he had a quad that he could race he would kick some major @$$

i dont think it is i really think it has to do with your size. they really should change the law how do you expect a 5'11 14 y/o kid to ride a 90cc and have any fun???

my wife and i have been discussing this very issue. my 10 year old is riding his LT80 wide open and its just way to small for him at this point. i was thinking a blaster for his next quad but i may set him on a 400ex. he has shown good sense when riding and i dont believe he would be a jackass on it.

I have a similar problem. My youngest son is 10 in January and he's got a TRX90 which he absolutely throws around like it's a toy. Jumps it 30+ feet. He is very ready for more power and speed but he's still a little small for the next size up in a quad. He can ride my 300EX but he's reaching for the bars too much. He actually rode a banshee when he was 8 and did great on it except when he gave it too much gas in a turn ad spun it around. It was tooo big for him though. I followed him close so I could watch him. Poor little guy is jonesin' for more power/speed. So, he's ready but his body isn't. Plus you gotta think about if a larger quad ever rolled over on him the weight would crush him. Unfortunatley for him I'm going to wait until he has a growth spurt. I was considering a 250EX but he would outgrow it so fast it may not be worth it? Not sure on that one yet.

If the kidis nolijable (sp) about bikes, and things, and knows his abilitie, and wont just do what the guy next to him does, i think it would be fine. I mean when i was 12 I woulda LOVED a Z. If a kid starts out with a a bike that is a little too much maybe, then in a year he will be FLYING!

Back in 1993 my dad went to the honda shop and bought a brand new cr500.I was 8 at the time.I was riding an 86 yz80.

My dad sat a milk crate next that cr while it was idling and let me ride it.I could barely reach the shifter. But I could ride it.The thing was I had already been riding for 4 years. And I had seen my dad riding that cr and knew it was a beast. So I didn't really give it to much gas at all.I don't think I ever got it past 1/2 throttle.

I only rode it once though. He never let me ride it again.

I think it is your ability and how you will respect the bike.If you get on it and go WOT and smoke a tree the first day you get it.I say you should be on a lt50.

When I was 13 I had 98 blaster.I got my 250r when I was 14.I also used to ride my dad's moded qaudzilla when I was 14.

it depend on your sizre and maturity. i learned how to ride clutch on 250r trike. :o my friend lil brother (10) has a predator 80 mini and he rides that thing wot threw evry turn over every woop and jump. he is just edging for more power but hes just too small for a biger quad;)

we went looking for a quad for a wee one and they said its not a factor if they can handle the power its just their bodies are not strong enough yet to handle a crash or a rollover because their bones arnt strong enough

If you act like a normal 12 year old you don't need one. I know when i was 12 I had a YZ80 dirtbike and thought I was king chit. Most 12 year olds do not have NEAR the responsibility to have a quad of that size. You might be very responsible I dont' know just tellin ya what i think...

i was racing my 250r when i was 12/13 and was racing a blaster before that. as long as your mature you should be able to handle it.

If your parents are ones not to go ridding with you then I would say NO. My Daughter is 14 and son is 17. Both have been riding now for 5 yrs. They are good riders and able to handle their own when it comes to riding. The thing is you are only 12 yrs old. Your sense of judgement is not developed enough to be turned loose on such a quad. If your parents are willing to ride with you at all times then yea, you could probably do ok.

My sister was 11 when she started riding my 400ex. Now shes 13 and can keep up pretty well. Mind you my sister and I have ridden motorized things since we could walk. It's basically how mature you are, and your size.

I would not let an 11 year old boy ride a 400ex, because they tend to be a bit more power hungry. But If you think about it, kids that are around 10 years of age ride 80cc MX bikes. Which almost have the same amount of speed as a 400ex. Basically its personal preference.

no. i started riding a fourtrax 300 when i was 6. i can throw my dads quad (well, its mine now) around like a toy and its a bigbear 400. im ready for a new quad too. my dad got him a kawasaki prarie for christmas and he gave me the bigbear. im 5'9'' and 130 lbs. and i can handle my friends 400ex so you might be able to handle a z-400

I started on my bayou when I was 9. I didn't have any problems handling it. but then again I am fairly tall for my age (i'm 14 and 6'2 or so) but I still have it. all depends on your responablitly level

as a slightly older dude..,when I hear a 12yr old on a 400...my 1st thought is NEG,.....it just doesn't sound good...but thats average 12yr old kid..

most 12yr olds that ride...have "somewhat" of an idea what can happen if they dont respect the machine,so I would maybe possibly change my opinion,..but 98% of that would depend on the kids maturity, respect and common sence levels:)
