Is it true that if i want to run the 4 stroke B class that I have to be 16 by Jan. 1, 2004?

I will be 16 by the time races start. Someone please tell me what the rule is.
Thanks

I would imagine you could race if you turn 16 after Jan 1st as long as you're 16 on race day. Most of the time that rule is in place so people dont get protested for being too old for a certain class. For example, if a 24 y/o races a 18-24 age group class and he/she turns 25 half way through the series, he can't get protested because they go by his/her age as of Jan 1st. If they didn't have that rule, there would be a lot of people that couldnt race the age group classes because they would have to change half way through the series.

I believe that you have to be 16 by either January 1st, or January 31.

You age is determind per the day of the event. If you turn 16 during the year, you can't run in the 4-st class untill the day of your birthday. the Jan 1st rule is for youths under 16. with youth they can run in the older age group if they become that age during the year. Also, they can stay in the class that they started in at the beging of the year. They do not have to advance to the next age class after there birthday.
In your case again you will have to wait till you turn 16 to ride in the GNC race's.
That is the rule in the AMA rulebook.

You need to be 16 by the first race you race in
