I just got a new 400EX for my wife for Christmas (moving up from a 250EX), and I'm looking for things I should do to it that are considered "must do's".
I alredy re-adjusted the throttle so it will open completely, and I am going to get a block off plate for the parking brake so I can remove it.
What else?

no clymer!!!! Go with the Honda one. As for other things, block-off, bars, re-jet the carb, and maybe nerfbars for protection.

I must disagree, I have the Honda manual hard copy and on cd.
I also have the Clymer.

Honda---Drawings

Clymer--Actual photo's

Like I said I have both & I reach for the Clymer first every time.

Yep they are the same except, the cd has a few almost unnoticable glitches like a line running through some text or some other small computer doc. blur or smear.

But is is the same.

I had the Honda copies first & when I got the Clymer it was like -- ok now I get it. It's pictures and text are put together better than the honda manual.

The only advantage the Honda may have is that it may go into slightly more detail than the Clymer & it's good to have both.

Sometimes what is clear in an illustration (Honda) is hard to see in a photo (Clymer).

But if I had to choose only one to have for ever & ever it would def be the Clymer.

speaking of service manual,.... register yourself (free) at http://www.sweetquads.com and download yourself a free service manual. I would also recommend micro-fishe to cross reference HONDA part #'s for ordering.

Hope this helps. Happy New Year!

Where do I find the service manual on their site? I can't find it. When I go to the downloads section, it says it isn't active.

Congrats on your new quad. If you want some real easy hop ups then the best is a new pipe and filter and jets you'll be amazed at the increased power from stock.
