Oil. where it shouldn't be!

I was cleaning my 400 today and on the shifter side of the motor ,on the top left by the exhaust I there is some oil or what i believe is oil. I guess my rings are toast. What cuases them to go bad and is it hard to replace? The wierd thing is it runs like a champ.

What makes you think that your rings are shot? Guessing on your description it soulds like a gasket is seeping a little.

If your rings were bad it would be smoking like a tar pit. You've got a bad o-ring or gasket at the top of the motor. Clean it up and see where it is coming from then go from there. Good luck.
