I finally got my break and got a 92 LT. Now I need some shocks for jumping. I have heard several people say 400ex shocks bolt right up to lt's and make it handle and ride/jump 3 times as good... and I dont really have the cash for works. I can pick up a stock 400 set for cheap so please help me out here!! How do you think it will ride and jump compared to what i have now?

ps even if the 400 shocks are too long, and can re mount the top bracket to make it fit so....

The stock LT shocks are actually pretty good. The 400ex and LT geometery are too different for them to be swaped and work correctly

I looked into this when I had my LT. The 400EX shocks are 16-1/4" and if I remember correctly the LT shocks were 15-3/4". As Jeff already pointed out, the front end geometry is so far different that it wouldn't benefit you. First of all, the 400EX is much heavier than an LT. On top of that the LT uses very short a-arms compared to a 400EX. So with shocks that are valved for a much heavier bike and coupled to short a-arms which reduce the leverage applied to that shock you'd be looking at a ride that would rattle the teeth out of your head.
