tHE BIG SCREW ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CARB, IN FRONT OF THE FUEL BOWL IS THE IDLE ADJUSTER.

Damn caps lock:p

When you get it broke in change the pilot jet to a 40 or 42 to help with starting.

i know I am no expert here but have you checked your plug?? I know when my plug is fouled my 400 either wont start or when it does it wont idle good. Just a simple solution most people over look.

Also if you have an after market CDI it could be a part of your problem.... but I would go with.....
1. make sure you have fuel and its on:rolleyes:
2. Replace the plug make sure you get one for current riding conditions
3. Less choke when starting sounds like it might be flooding and the high rev clears it out.....

luck

Kinda sounds like the choke is on
