I've only been to Canta Mar in Mexico, Glamis, and Pismo...

Hated Pismo for the drive and the moisture at night. The hassel of the Rangers and those little things that they call big dunes out their... The dunes are small.. On the positive it is on the beach, the town is right outside of the gates, and it's about the same distance from Los Angeles as Glamis is.

I Mostly go to Glamis.. it's one huge place and even on a large weekend you can go a few miles into the dunes and find untouched sand. The weather is perfect in the winter even thou it's a bit chilly at night. The atmosphere is great and I always seem to amke new friends out there...

I hear Dumont is tons smaller than Glamis but with less people and steep dunes and drop offs that can get you hurt really bad..... who knows thou.. I can't speak from experience... sounds like fun but Never been there and most likely never will unless it somehow gets bigger and closer to me than Glamis...

Cant Mar (on the beach also) is tiny but it's a few miles from the Rosarito strip so you can party all night if you can lock up your quads inside somewhere. The dunes are small and you go over about two of them and thats it, your done. The comp hill is a laughter somewhat like Pismo's comp hill..

But also Puerto nuevo is right down from there and they have the bomb lobster....... Great for a weekend trip... Anything goes there also... No helmet laws, drinking laws, etc. Also don't notice any of the bad moisture that I got in Pismo.. I usually head down there in the Summer...

Just my 2 cents...

I live in Vegas also and I haven't been to Glamis yet. I am planning a trip for around January or February. So, I can't say how that is.

Anyway though I have been to Dumont, Nellis, Coral Pink and St. Anthony Dunes. I go to Dumont the most and to me it's the most fun because I know it pretty much like the back of my hand. It isn't the biggest riding spot but it's always awesome riding in my opinion. Always pretty good size jumps, Comp. is always fun, the razors there are sweet and it't just mostly way fun. I love it also because I wake up early and always get those nice rides with virgin dunes. Dumont is awesome...that's all you can say.

I have been to Nellis about 10 times, it isn't as fun as any of the other 3 but it's ok for those weekend or one day trips. There are a lot of small jumps, not too many hills and it is kind of rocky and dusty in a lot of areas. It is still fun but has to be my least favorite out of the 3.

Coral Pink I have only been to twice however those were two really fun trips. The sand there is really really soft and and it takes a while to get used to. There are some pretty big hills and if you go way back you can even find some trail riding. The dunes are somewhat big but there are a lot of trees and grassy areas. It's nice scenery but I don't like having to watch for trees when I ride. It is still a great place to ride.

Last but certainly not least St. Anthony in Idaho. No question it is the biggest out of al 3. The dunes just seem to go on forever. All the way in the back there is Devils Dune and Choke Cherry. Two huge huge dunes. Choke Cherry seems almost like a 90 degree hill but it is awesome going down. St. Anthony also has some huge huge bowls. There are tons of jumps but also some bad rocky areas that are not fun to ride over. If I had been there more than once I would say it was better than Dumont but I can't say that. Still though it is one of the greatest trips I have ever ever taken.

Well hope this helps and is something of what your looking for. Well check out some of these ride spots and you definately will not be dissapointed...Later

Glamis is the worlds biggest roller coaster ride in the world. It is a 40 hour drive for me but worth every minute of the trip we go on thanksgiving weekend and it is un believable.Little sahara is also great they have electrical hook ups showers no helmet law but i recomend you wear one at all times.Ride right out of campground into the dunes.Nice little speed shop if you ever need a part they may be able to help you.Never rode at dumont but plan on going soon.Glamis would be my favorite ride spot but i like little sahara just as much plus its only 18 hour rise for me sinde i live just around the corner from the green bay packers.Ride safe and HAVE FUN................................CHRIS

Yeah, Nellis is ok for day trips cause for me it's also only about 10 minutes away. Dumont for me is about a 2 hour drive but everytime it is way worth it for me. I live over on Lamb and Sahara...Yeah Choke Cherry is really steep like I said it almost seems like a 90 degree angle hill. It is really fun though. I ride with the guys from www.sandbros.com so if you go look at the pictures of the Idaho trips you will see our 410R and my old 400ex.

Oh, and no I don't have a 300ex. I have an 87 250R that will have a CT310 motor in it. It isn't built yet though. I am waiting to get my frame and hubs back from the powedercoater and I am waiting to get my axle and swingarm back from the chromer. I got my plastic in just a few days ok. It's the shiny black Maeir plastic. Looks pretty nice. Almost identical to the Fullbore that is on my stepdads 410R. Also his is an 87 250R just with a CT410 in it. His is all built though. The reason mine isn't is because I just sold my 400ex about 3 weeks ago and picked up the R about 2 weeks ago. When it all gets done I will get pictures up of my 310R and my stepdads 410R...Later

The Oregon Dunes have white sand don't they? If that's what your talking about I have been wanting to ride there for a while. I have a picture of it in my Sand Calendar and it looks nice...How is it? I will have to go sometime.

Oh, and one thing I wanted to say about St. Anthony is like what ckasper said about Little Sahara...St. Anthony also has hook ups for electrical and water and it is like that where you can walk out of your trailer hop on a bike and be right in the dunes. Also the campground itself is very nice. There is a little park, there is also a small parts shop and most of the campground is grass. Very nice place to visit...Later

A good friend of mine is now stationed at Nellis. He has a silver 350 PV R and it might have yellow number plate with 99 or 99p on it. I know he rides with Abbott a lot and has told me about the Apex, etc.......JIM

Yeah, I know Abbott too. He worked on my 400ex a few times and I think I rode with him a few times also but I can't remember. I have seen him ride though up near his shop. He is a great ride I can tell you that. He has a guy who worked for him for a while named Tony who owns his own shop now called Quad Mania and that is where all the parts I am getting for my new R are coming from...Later

I belong to an atv club here in Nor Cal. We've been to Glamis, Pismo, Oregon, Dumont, Sand Mountain, and San felipe. The general consensus is Glamis is the best. It is the largest of all sand riding areas. Dumont and Sand Mountain are similar except Dumont is about twice the size and there is no larger nor steeper comp hill than Sand Mountain. Oregon is beautiful and has lots technical through the trees climbing but nothing very tall comparatively. Pismo, hmmm, Pismo is great for the family because of the gorgeous view of the ocean and the kids love to play in the sand on the beach. Another good aspect of Pismo is the ability to launch your pwc from the beach. If you've never ridden a pwc on the ocean, you've never had the best experience you can on a pwc. Oh yea, the dunes at Pismo, weakest of all areas I've ever ridden. San felipe is like the wild wild west. anything goes! The best thing about their dunes is the beach. At low tide you can haul ***** on the beach. There are also plenty of hotels with swim up bars on the beach. You ride up to the pool, swim up to the bar, have a cocktail or two, and ride off! Also, the best time for all you younger folk is either spring break or memorial day. all the college aged people love to go there and have fun!!

Since there is two Little Sahara's I will speak for the one in my backyard in Utah. The riding area is about the same size as Saint Anthonys, Idaho. I have been to both spots plus Dumont and Glamis. I Like our area as well as SA. SA has the biggest dunes, but both places are equally as fun. Utahs Sand Mtn is bigger then Sand Mtn NV. Dumont was okay at best. Very small riding area. I liked Glamis, but it doesn't have the big dunes like Utah and Idaho. Glamis has great bowls but no better then the northern sand piles. Though Idaho and Utah don't have 30 miles of dunes 10 miles or more isn't to shabby, but they are much taller then Glamis dunes.. There is sand box's year round if your willing to travel..

I have also riden in San Felipe, Mexico. My step-dads friend's family has a small beach house there. We went up there for New Years last year and that was an awesome trip. Riding on the beach is something I will never forget. I remember going too far out and getting just covered in mud after the tide came in. Although riding the beach and riding that whole area is nice. Like norcalatver said you can just ride right up to the pools, the bars, the restaraunts or whatever. It is great.

Oh, and ckasper I saw your bike on atvconnection and sandbros and I have to say that is one sweet sweet bike. Very very nice job on everything with it. Umm...well yeah that would be cool to ride sometime. I got to let you know though I am only 15. Actually I am going to Dumont this weekend. I am leaving Friday at probably around noon. If you know Mike you might know some of the other guys that I ride with. Howard and Terry are good friends of Mikes and I ride with them a lot. That is actually who is taking me to ride this weekend. Since my R isn't built yet Howard is letting me borrow a bike. If you know Howard you know what a great guy he is. Well like I said that would be cool to ride with you. Just email me or IM anytime and we can talk...Later

Hey hondaexryda...did you find out if your going to Dumont this weekend or no? I am leaving tomorrow around 2 probably, maybe later but I don't know yet. Where do you usually camp? Maybe we can meet up sometime. You said you think you know Howard and a few other guys I know. That's who I will be with. By the way what's your name and how old are you? I am only 15 so you know and I won't have my bike this weekend since it isn;t built but I will still be on an R. Well if you have a cell that works in Dumont give me a call. I usually get service up there so if you want to meet up sometime or anything give me a call. The number is 286-7081 and my name is Tyler. So, maybe I will see you there...Later

I want to ride Sand Dunes National Monument near Alamosa, CO. I've been to the top of all the Imperial dunes and Little Sahara, UT and they aren't even in the same league. Of course you can't ride it either.
