View Full Version : My Quad Situation...

Ok, Well, as alot of you know, i got into some trouble with the police on my quad earlier this year, and i was forced to sell my quad. We sold it to a guy that my dad works with. He bought my 250 for his wife to ride, she hardly rode it at all so they didnt bother keeping it. Sooo...he bought, new plastics, new graphics and new handlebars for it and put it out for sale at his yard sale. Some guy was VERY interested in it and wanted to take a test ride before he bought it, so he let him, and he took off right down the road and never returned. The guy we originally sold it to, George, filed a police report, and sumhow, they found the guy that took it. So, george had to pay to get it out of the impound and he put it back out for sale. He told my dad the whole story and my dad started to think...he bought it back from him. My dad told me to go see what he bought that was in the back of his truck, and i went out to see and :eek2: it was my old 250. i asked him why he bought it and he said, "to pull the lawnsweeper to pick up leaves" i thought he was messin around, so i said, "can i ride it" and he said, "Nope, it's mine." So he's stuck to those words ever since, i've rode HIS 250ex TWICE, and that was to sweep up leaves. I thought this could be sumthing that i could get back for good grades...report card time came around...nope, didnt get it back.
I am now a firm believer that my dad will never give me back my quad, but, that only bothers me for awhile, because i'm starting a job here really soon, and i plan to buy a used 400ex, and save up and put all my money in the bank for about a year and dump about 12g's into it. Heres what im wanting to do to the 400:

-LRD 440 kit
-LRD full exaust
-Dark red PC'ed frame
-Grey Fullbores
-Lonestar Longtravel A-arms
-Lonestar +1 Swingarm
-Lonestar Chrome Steering Stem
-Lonestar Axle
-Elka Fully adj. Quad rate Fronts
-Elka Fully adj. Dual rate rears
-20" ITP Holeshot XRC-03's on rear and
-21" ITP Holeshot XCR's up front on
-Hyper Rims all around
-AC accessories all around
-Tag T2 handlebars

and sum other little stuff that i cant think of, I dont have to worry about sumthing to drive, got a nice little ranger to drive, and i still live at home....so...all my money is going into this project

Tell me wut you think!

i live with my dad, that doesnt mean he pays for EVERYTHING...he helps me out but theres no way in hell I could ever make $12g's to put into my 4 wheeler with going to school & everything..even if I did work enought o get $12,000 in a year that would make it to where I would have no time to ride the damn 4 wheeler:(

theres a thing going on around here called "operation 3-way" its the county police, csx, and the dnr all joining together to stop people from riding around here. they say theyre not going to stop until everyone stops riding around here. (all i have to say is theyre guaranteed their job forever)

I think your dad is a good guy that sticks to the discipline he handed out. More of today's parents should function in this manner.

There's two sides to the spectrum though, how would you like to have a father that strict. I'm not saying i have the best father on earth, because I could see him doing something like that- being he did when he sold my christmas gift(real awesome christmas gift and super generous) 400ex in june when my last report card came home and i went all summer with out a quad, but when my grades were good again in fall i was able to buy another one,and yes i bought another one. Well im just saying that as a kid i can appreciate my father and parents disciplinary action, but at the same time i would like to have someone who's a little understanding..and by all means ur scenario sucks right here bro, getting taunted with you're old quad, damn.

When I was in the 4th grade me, my brother and the neighbor kid rode our bikes up to the local high school to ride around in the parking lot. Well in this lot was a greenhouse and a pile of bricks. Next thing you know 82 windows are broken out of the greenhouse and I'm sitting with the school superintendant and my parents. This was in September. My father did not buy the Warrior he said he was going to buy us for Christmas that year and I was grounded for a year, literally. I couldn't leave my yard to play with friends, they couldn't come to my house, I couldn't call them on the phone and there was no Atari 2600. I look back on that now and understand the punishment. There are rules to play by and when you break those rules there needs to be consequences. I always got good grades in school so that was never an issue but if I brought home a bad report card I'd have to finish the entire school year out on a positive note before I looked to get any kind of reward. That's like punching your sister in the face one moment and then kissing her the next and expecting your parents to reward you for good behavior. I fully believe in corporal punishment and solid guidelines that cannot be bent.

You are 15 years old and somehow you're going to come up with $12,000 dollars to put in a quad alone. That is nearly impossible unless A, your a drop-out or B, every waking minute you are not at school you are working (for atleast $10 an hour, cash) including weekends. Sounds like BS to me. Just save up, buy a quad..put SOME money into it, then start saving for a car-because the way you describe your father, your not getting much money for a car from him-so start saving. Just my advice....

Well, this job i should be gettin, is at Showcase Cinemas(movie theater) and it pays $7.50/hour and i put down to work everyday, including weekends and holidays, whenever they need me. One of my best friends is a major role models to me, he works at Hungry howie's almost everyday making pizza and in a little over a 1/2 a year he had a $15,000 310r. He also pays for his own nextel bill, and his 2002 silverado payment, and still afforded his quad. I am truly dedicated to this sport, finding this sport was the best thing that ever happened to me. I am fortunate to have parents that provide me with clothing, food and shelter everyday, and with that little piece on my side, i really think i can put aside all of my checks for awhile and then invest it in something i truly enjoy. I never relized what riding meant to me until i couldnt ride nemore, now, more than ever, i want that ability back. Here's my friends quad...i wish i had sumthin like this... :(

12-23-2003, 08:41 PM
So does my nephew and he puts every dime into his quad, you don't build a $15,000 quad in less than a year when you barely make that much a year, unless your getting help from somewhere else.

12-23-2003, 08:46 PM
Does he work full time or part time? Part time would not be near 15k a year, its impossible unless hes getting help.

all the luck to you friend...i am 16 & just got my first job at this fast food restaurant making $7.00 an hour.....i thought after I got this job I would put all my money into my quad that I get from this job & all I would do is work & really make my four wheeler have the best of everything...its not that easy, you will have other things to spend money on & your parents prob. wont help like they used too b/c they know that you have money & your chosing to put it all into some vehicle that doesnt get you anywhere important.....& if you did work enough to get all that money & put it al linto your four wheeler, do you have any idea how man yhours that would be a week at only making $7.50 an hour? when would you have time to ride the 4 wheeler or have any social life? sorry to crush your dream :( .....

like i said full time (40hr a week) @ $7.50 per hour is about $15600 a year, you take into consideration, gas money, a lil spending etc

He's still in high school as a senior. He has carried a 4.0 his whole high school career...so he's gotta be doing sumthing right. His parents didnt pay for any of the quad and He would never chance messing up his life by selling drugs. To me, he has the ideal lifesyle for a guy my age, Steady job, best grades possible, nice truck, bad***** quad, lots of friends, good family, wut else could you ask for?
