stay with nine inch, it will be just as good of handling but with an extra half inch of ground clearance

what does the size of rim have to do with ground clearance? if your goin to get into motocross i like 8" if your goin to run 18 tires. just my 2 cents

I have both 8 inch and 9 inch rear rims. Personally, I prefer the 9 inches better because it gives you that 1 extra inch of sidewall, thus, not as much sidewall flex.
Yes, you will need to change your gearing. What works best for me is to bump the front sprocket up one tooth and leave the rear stock.

Rim size does not affect ground clearance,I prefer 9's less side wall flex =more predictable slides, you also don't get the rough ride and smashing rims into rocks that you do with 10s

why would you have to change your gearing if you got different size rims? i thought that was only when you changed tire size?:huh
