Welp, here's the Racer after my first full day with it! Sorry about the filthy condition. My uncle believed in proper mechanical maintenance but washing it was out of the question (and with it being about 15* in NE Ohio I wasn't too hip on the idea of washing it either.) Here it sits waiting for new brake pads, steering stem and rear wheel/tire combo (note the stock, worn '87 tires).http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid29/pafc1a06bf38da6a4a9813b5cbd89030d/fded41ef.jpg

Notice the garage's most important tool in the 2nd pic-->the fridge:devil My brother caught me in mid "$hit" as I was pulling on the rag but it was stuck on the jackstandhttp://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid29/p541e23520463a9c7a15e1b2332ceb545/fded41ed.jpg

I was going to just attach these pics but they were too large and I'd have to shrink them down too far to fit. VWVR6, I've got close-ups of just about any angle you want to see. Send me a PM with any requests.:D

WoW  That thing looks really nice for being all original. Man from the pictures it looks like the frame doesn't have a major scratch on it.

oh man I still cant belive how small the front brakes are on the lt 250r.:huh

They're big enough to throw you over the bars if you squeeze the lever hard enough. I don't race professionally and don't have any aspirations to so the front brakes are fine.

bout time you got rid of that pos yamaha...who needs brakes. go put trees on earth for a reason

Guy,

Very nice! As for that brake comment, the front brakes do MORE than enough when you need to stop....

We finally lined up a 400EX (piped, jetted & airbox mod) vs the LT250 (stock except for the reeds and Uni filter). My buddy did get the holeshot for like maybe 30-35 feet, then the Zuki caught up quickly. They were side by side up until 3rd gear. Once the LT wound 3rd out, the race was over. 3 quad lengths shortly turned into about 8 quad lengths by 4-5 gear change....same results the second time around. I was impressed!

Here's the business side of the '87 LT. Powervalved and 6-speed...

How about the homemade gussets? Don't make fun of my welds:D

Did I miss something? Are you rebuilding another LT??

My buddy that rebuilt his Suzuki had his frame straightened and gusseted around the same spots. That must be a weak spot on their frames....

BTW, those welds look pretty good if you ask me... ;)

Eric, I don't really know how Suzuki let that get by them. Most every other tubing intersection has factory gussets in them. The upper shock mount has 2 gussets per shock, the rear shock mount is heavily gussetted. Several other intersection in the front suspension 'box' have gussets in them already. I thought I was going to have to do a lot of gussetting but after I looked at the bike I noticed that where I put my gussets is the only place where the bike really lacks them. Oh well, now I can move on to other stuff now:)

I agree with Eric, your welds look great. Much better than the splattered welds on my stock 400 frame.:(

Hey Guy, how easy is it to get the parts you need to rebuild the LT's? I had thought about doing the same thing, and figured I could get a LT cheaper than a 250R, but didn't think parts would be as easy to find...

Parts are vrey easy to find for LT's. It just seems like nobody carries stuff for Suzuki because the parts are rarely advertised. Most every major aftermarket manufacturer that makes something for the 250R also makes it for the LT. If you don't see something printed in an advertisement, call that company on the telephone. Odds are they'll have LT stuff. I'm in the same boat you are, I looked at 250R's first but they're just so damn expensive. Most all of them were selling for about $4500-5000 around my area for the nice ones. The cheapest one I found was for $3200 and it was seriously ragged out. Bearings were shot, frame was rusty, etc.

I feel the same way. The LT250R is way under estimated....which is good because you can find them cheap. Myself, if I were to look for an older quad...the LT250 would be it (unless i found a STEAL on a 250R...)

VWVr6 AND knighttime have you run the 420 up against the LT yet???

MOFO

Nope, but I'm not too sure if the 416 (420) will be enough. Maybe we'll find out this weekend. :D

My buddy that raced his 400 against the LT250 said the LT would give a Raptor a run for its money. (not top speed..but around 100-150 yard race) He's raced Raptors before and is familiar with thier speed.....

Hey Rico I was sick with the flu last week and missed the ride on Saturday. The 420ex though will be more than enuff to keep up with a stock lt250R. The 400 he roasted only has a pipe.

If ya ask me I think it was a rider issue,,,It was Eric racin the 400 right??:devil
