i dunno why it wont come out. It screwed up the liitle socket gizmo that come with the bike. its a 04 400ex. it tried using a different socket and i think its a 3/4 socket. but the only thing that would fit was an 11/16, any bigger would hit around the engine cylinder like the socket was too wide. does anybody else jknow of this problem?? i was soo pissed off  thanx guys

been there done that.you need a thin wall 18mm.a craftsman crome socket is what i use.it will barley fit down in there.the plug sits at an angle also.

I never had the problem you have, but a little anti-seize on the threads of the new plug will help prevent it from happening again.

no problem.antiseize is a good idea because it keeps the steel plug threads from getting stuck in the aluminum head.

You need a deep well 12 point, not 6 point 18mm socket.

Dude, you don't now is being talked about...

The 12 point refers to the number of sides the socket has. The six point works for me though.

I used a regular 18mm deep socket, and used a bench grinder to thin the walls to get it to fit...

I bought a Kobalt (Lowe's) 12pt 18mm socket.
The socket is 2 1/2" long.
I use this with a 3" extention & a 3/8 ratchet.

Its tight but gets the job done.

I use a 11/16 socket and it takes a little more effort but it gets the job done. You also need a very short extension. I know the 18 millimeter is easier but he might not have that.

I had to take my 18mm and gind it down to fit. The tool is to big that comes with the bike is to big. I had to mod mine so I would not have that problem. Lets just say I made it into a semi 12 point.

Use anti Seize on your plug threads = Must
If you do not have anti seize at least put a little oil on the threads.

antiseize is a good idea because it keeps the steel plug threads from getting stuck in the aluminum head.
