mine was an 1983 Suzuki Quadrunner 125. I am pretty sure it was 83.... Anyway, I thought it was a hot rod; had cam, bored to 143ccs, etc, etc. I used to surprise a lot of people with that 125 on the side of the seat....lmao

Brand spankin new 1986 Yamaha YFM200 Moto 4. This was a utility 2wd quad with NO suspension....just balloon tires. This quad really made me appreciate suspension when i finally got it on my 89/90 Suzuki Quadsport 250. :D


I still have the Yamaha stored at my parents house... someday its gonna get restored and some bling bling. :eek:

My first quad is my 400EX I have now. I started out on dirtbikes then switched over. I learned on my first dirtbike when I was 4. It's a 1970 something Suzuki JR-50, my dad bought it 12 years ago from my neighbor, then I moved up, got a KX-80, sold that, was going to get a blaster and held off and then my dad got himself a TrailBlazer 250 so I rode that temporarily and then in July I finally got my 400EX.

(I still have the JR-50!)

1999 Honda Recon. That thing was bulletproof, I was always towing my friends quads home when they broke down, and where we used to ride was really hilly, the ole Recon would pull the hills with ease. :cool:

I didn't know how much I would get into quads, so my first quad was a 2001 Warrior. I found out quickly that it wasn't MX material, so I sold it to a friend of ours girlfriend, and bought my 400ex within 2 months! Then I had that quad and put the 440 in it and all it's goodies and everything..........raced it hard for almost two years! :) I still miss it....but looking forward to bigger and better things very soon! :)

My first quad was a 1986 200SX with black maier fenders and a grey seat. It still was the best quad I ever had, it was so much fun. It went pretty fast for a 200.

well considering I jumped on it from my ol Yamaha, it seemed like it was the fastest quad in the world...LOL! Actually I liked it ALOT....very reliable...all I ever did was change the oil and add gas. I knew someone that had a 230 Quadsport and the 250 Quadsport was much nicer....too bad they only made them like 2 years I think.

Mine was either a 1990 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4x4 or a 1981 Max II 6x6. I forget which one we got first, but they were both purchased within a month or 2 of each other. I think we got the Bear first. The shocks on the Bear were pretty much useless because you could jump up and down on the front or rear rack and the shocks would move maybe an inch. About 6 months after that we got the 2000 Arctic Cat 300 4x4 (still have), then in the following year and a half or so we got some dirtbikes, and the FL250 Odyssey. Then we sold the Bear and got the 400EX, sold all the bikes and got the CR125.

Hey!!! The Banshee has been excellent!!! Exactly what I had wanted for the dunes - I hope to be able to keep it when I get another quad!!!

I will get getting my race quad in March. I have been waiting for the 450R for a long long time, so unless it gets pushed out again or something happens between now and then to change my mind to a Yami - that's going to be my race quad!

The Shee is really fun - even at the MX tracks now that I've gotten used to the powerband!! :)

Well, I don't think you'd be disappointed with either quad! Good luck with which ever choice you make, and racing! ;) I've always thought it would be great to ride the dunes, gotta try that sometime! I think the Banshee would be my choice for the dunes, although I don't think my LRD LT would be too bad! Next year I want to go skydiving, and ride the dunes. Maybe you guys could show me how it's done. I better ride the dunes first, with my luck! :eek2:

That almost happened to me too. Saw a MINT condition Quadzilla sitting in some guys yard. Guy NEVER RODE IT, he said he still had the original spark plug on it. If I remember correctly it was an '89! Rode as a passenger at age 5 or so, on a 1981 250R 3-wheeler, no suspension, balloon tires. I was scared crapless. My first wheeler was '77 ATC70 I got when I was 6. A year or two later, I was riding my dad's '84 TRX200. That was like king sh|t back then.
Then at age 12 I went BACK IN TIME to a 1976 ATC90. (We're talking fiberglass fenders) There weren't many places it couldn't go. It always left a trail of smoke so you could tell where I had gone. I remember the knobbies were so old and rotted that I had big holes in both rears and my dad and I put bolts w/ washers and plenty of silicone to seal them. It worked!
Then I had an '84 ATC125M. (remember metal gas tanks?) Next was a '94 Blaster that was rode to hell and back. A '90 CR250, another Blaster, and now my '99 400EX.
Wow!!! How times have changed. Don't I feel old, when visiting this thread and most of the members started out on quads that were built in late 80's and early 90's. I've been riding longer than majority of EXRIDERS been alive.

jeff- we have that same quad, 88' though... blew the oil rings on it. we have 26x12x12 blackwaters on it... 2000lb winch, uni filter, great quad.

My first quad was a 2000 400ex. I built the motor as fast and reliable as possible. I then threw a set of works front and rear shocks on her. Even for bottom dollar shocks they handled really nice. Those of you at dutchmen riding the yfz's and cannondales know what I'm talking about. She will not be forgotten!

By the looks of the motor... its gotta be better than those cheap chitty pocketbike's quality-wise. I know here you can walk into Schucks auto store's and see little dirtbikes(which I frowned on)... till I saw they had HONDA motors in em':eek2: I mean... I wouldn't by 1 but for a noob... its at least a Honda patented motor(altho it ran out)... which equals reliability

first quad was also a 400ex, i traded it and 500 for my current 400ex which is quite a bit quicker. It needs frame, a-arms, and subframe painted tho, it looks like **** but man does she run.

I kinda wish i woulda kept my AC nerf bars for the EX i got now, it has DGs. I think I'm gunna buy some AC pro pegs anyways.

my first quad was the 2000 400EX. I owned a couple of Mojave's before that, but they were for my wife to ride. I owned plenty of 3-wheelers back in the day also.

Atv's, I was a 3 wheeler guy(along with bikes ), until a honda 200sx wich I kinda gave to my mom. And I bought 2 warrior's (gave one to my dad) so we could all ride together. After rding a warrior, and a couple of 250r's I decided that a quad would be safer and a bit more relaxing then my 350x for certain area's. The 200 was and is still fun, just not enough power suspension or speed. So I have bought a few machines since.
